I see that Phil is saying the 1D price from his people is going to be $5500.

My small local camera shop told me his wholesale price was told to him to be about $4100. That leaves a lot of room for steep discounts. Of course that is assuming he is correct on that wholesale price.

I guess the early prices are going to be based on supply and demand. If the local shop gets 2 cameras and there is a list of 15 people, there is no reason for him to discount the price at all.

Pete--

All I can say is, "Be Careful!". I talked to Greg Noble at Canoga Cameras (among many others) about the 1D and no one, yet, has a price for the 1D only the suggested retail price from Canon. Canon is giving strict orders NOT to provide any other price at this time. Greg did (and was the only one) say that in his experience he thought it should come in around $5500 though. I would be VERY surprised if the 1D (unless stripped to the bone) comes in under $5000.

The price of $4100.00 is incorrect.

Brandon-
I heard from Canon that allocations of EOS-1D's are going to be even stricter than expected.
I suppose time will tell.....be nice to have them by year end so people could enjoy the tax write off.
