How do you turn the flash off permanently?

Does anyone know how to permanently turn the flash off? (I own an S45.)

I turn it off over and over but it keeps turning itself back on, which is a nightmare, as I shoot in places where you're not supposed to have flashes going off.

Jamie,

turn it off and then store the settings (under the 'menu' button).

But that's not possible in every mode, so use the 'C'-mode to personalize the settings.
