Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has any advice for photography conditions in Egypt?

I'm going to be there for 10 days this month, and it would be greatly appreciated if anyone could share advice, recommendations and warnings about the following:

- recommendations on lenses to bring/use/rent
- protection from dust and sand
- optimal times during the day to shoot
- methods for shooting in the desert
- additional gear/equipment/tools/cleansers to bring
- storage and safety
- ideal shooting locations and "must-have" shots
- anything else that you recommend!

Thanks in advance!

Stay away from any revolts if you can!

If conditions are dusty, put a filter on your lens for additional protection. I'd bring my rocket blower. Be careful, that's a country in transition.

Egypt is very safe, I've been there many times, before and after the revolution. If you are going to the traditional sites, then obviously wide angle is a good choice. I used to take my 70-200 but it doesn't get much use except on a river cruise down the Nile.

Be aware that some sites do not allow cameras, such as the Cairo Museum, Abu Simbel and Valley of the Kings. Most sites that allow photography have a no flash rule.

It really depends on where you are going, most of the traditional sites are not in a real sandy desert environment. In all my trips I only ran into two sand storms, one in Sakkara and the other in Aswan. On those occasions I just didn't take out the camera.

Like most anywhere, morning and evening light is the best IMO.
