Hey David.... I like the 3rd image best... it is the most classic hockey shots of them all. The last image is also good - like the little dude watching with much interest while holding his little stick.
On the CC side, if you could just bring the light levels up some, and warm them a touch - I think it would help them pop a little more. If you bring the light up in small incriments, adding just enough contrast back in - being carefull to stay below the level where noise starts to appear.
I am sure some of the better hockey shooters may have some goood advice for you as well. And is this warm weather crazy or what.... well get more into the fall\winter feel here shortly. I was wondering if we could get gavin or who ever it was to do their rain dance for us.. we sure need it. Cheers!

Very Good shots David! I agree with Croasdail, a little brighter with a small amount of color saturation would allow these to stand out a bit more.

Mark, Alan -- thanks for the kind words. On my calibrated Mac at home they aren't dark, but on my PC at work they are. I hate color management.
thanks again.

Venkat --
thank you for the kind words. This is my third season shooting ice hockey and I've still got a long ways to go.
your shots are technically very good (perhaps better than mine). You've got the exposure and white balance down pat. Two comments, though -- many of them are of players on the ice, rather than of ice hockey. It's really tough to get a shot at the moment two players are contesting posession of the puck, or at the peak of a slapshot, but that's the essence of the game. Second point is minor: you're shooting from somewhere high up. That shortens the players and makes it harder to see the faces. Try to get in the penalty box, and wear a helmet.
good work,

I like them all hockey is a fun fast sport to shoot. I really like the shot of the goallie he is so concentrated on the puck. I think that is the essence of the game. If you get a chance go to my site and check out my hockey shots and comement if you like

danphoto -- thanks for the compliments. I'd gladly look at your hockey gallery (I like learning from other's photos, too) -- what's the link?
I'm a winger (not a good one), so to me the essence of the game is skaters contesting the puck. My older son is a goalie, he'd agree with you that stopping a shot is the essence of the game.
with baited breath...

David you might recognize one of the players that I photographed his number would be 77. I sort of agree with you the essence of the game is concetrating on the puck. It makes no difference if your a wing center denfenseman or goallie. I have a freind who played in the WHA with Chevers. I took a shot a few years back and framed it and gave it to him. He loves it there are four of five players and they are all looking at the two dollar puck because where it ends up is the game. Just go to my site and scroll down to the hockey games http://danphoto1.tripod.com

Great shots Dave. I like the action of the bigger kids. That 135f2 is a beauty also! Have a few of my sons Atom hockey. Alot slower action so a little easier to shoot. Have a look. http://www.pbase.com/crush1287/atom_hockey

Dan -- some very nice photos there. the black jerseys make the right exposure critical, and you've done a good job. More with the puck in play would help.
Crush -- you da' man. those are excellent photos, you've got a great eye for timing and getting the action. I haven't been able to get any good panning shots (like your IMG_4618) because by the time I figure out to start panning, the puck's gone. great work.
thanks, both.

Nice images !
Like the attitude in third one but the fourth could be really good if you went for a landscaped crop tight in on the netminder with the puck in the front as per ........

David I was on the bench with what seemed like a 100 Russian hockey players. They had so many players on the bench that I was penned in between sticks equiotment etc. I had to hang over the side of the wall to get anything. It was really hard.

Dan -- absolutely. at least they let you in. shooting hockey is a challenge in many ways, and a lot of fun.

Man are you kidding this was a two day shoot with three receptions and a hockey game. A dream gig that paid very well. It involed a trillion dollar company the larges company in Russia and the Boston Bruins Alumni Team. Players include Ray Bourque Don Sweeney and Andy Brinkly. the coach was Milt Schmit. Two of these guys are in the hockey hall of fame. The only problem is the way the rink was set up you could leave the bench to shoot from other angles. I have never had so much fun in my life. I even went upstars to the Bruins owners Private suite and took shots of him with Ray and the CEOS of the two companies.
They are putting together 50 sets of 40 prints to send to the Russians

Dan -- very cool. a higher level of play than the midgets and A, and B in my local rink. Once in a while I go to a Hurricanes game, but never take the camera.
