Well, I got bored and as usual I decided to break out my camera. This time I also went hunting around the house for a few lights and decided to practice some lighting technique. How are these:

and in case it comes up, this is the set-up:

Yeah, it is fairly low budget. The two lamps just have standard bulbs and were mainly used to light the background (to which I set a custom white balance) and the bar across the top is an aquarium light, with a bit of a blue tint, which seemed to work nicely for my purposes. Am I doing anything wrong or against those unwritten rules of lighting? Just looking for feedback.

I can see a small color cast from the aquarium lights, but that looks pretty good to me! You might try moving the lights to reduce the shine on the fish's "forehead".

Am I doing anything wrong or against those unwritten rules of lighting? What unwritten rules? Photography is an art, just like sculpture or painting. Anything goes. Whatever the photographer wants to do to create an image is OK.

Like any form of art, acceptance of the images by the public (or a client) is the only thing in question when the photographer does things that aren't seen as "mainstream".

Thanks for the comments, and SkipD, that bit about the unwritten rules was more or less sarcastic:rolleyes:, but thank you anyhow.
