Steve......one more and you've got the trinity! How is the 24mm? Was considering that one a while back but decided to go really really wide and bought a used Sigma fisheye.........

Believe me, I'd really like to complete the Trinity but I need some time to catch my financial breath. This photography thing has zoomed (way way) past the $2000 I thought was my spending limit.

Not that I'm unhappy with my collection of glass, mind you :) I'm scouring the used equipment forums in hopes of finding one that looks like a good deal.

The 24mm is a fine lens that just doesn't get on the camera much. It's a "tweener"; too long to be a good wide angle on the 20D and too short for normal view usage, if that makes any sense. It's a noisy little guy too when it focuses. No faulting the image quality though...and f/2.8 to boot.

Cheers

But now for something completely different ...

Russian Tair-3 300/4.5 M42 lens in the 'Photo sniper' configuration

http://photography-on-the.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=27796&d=1126476363

Maybe not the best choice as portrait or sports lens
Note the positively weird lens hood...

http://photography-on-the.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=27795&d=1126476363

Unfortunately, the 20D is too large to mount the lens+camera on the shoulder stock with the M42 adapter :o
Haven't yet had time to build some kind of adapter, but I think it would work with the 300D or 350D.

Best regards,
Andy

My father owns a 2x and a 3x TC for the old M42 screw mount lenses. So, just for fun, some months ago I tried to stack both of them between my camera and my MTO 500mm f/8, obtaining a monstrous 3000mm f/44 (actually 4800mm, with the crop factor!!!). It was like a blind telescope, with no contrast, no sharpness and a little CA. I shot some picture at noon in a sunny summer day and with the 350D placed on the balustrade of the balcony, but I was not able to obtain a single good picture, of course!

Michaelmjc
