First professional project! I’m taking images for a 2004 California Swimsuit Calendar – one model for all 12 months. Yesterday we completed some studio (in my garage!) images and a few outside at a local park. In a few weeks we will be at the beach to finish.

Nice work for a first time paid shoot! For glamour work, you may want to go with a slightly warmer CB, however. :)

Nice shots. I noticed one thing however: the model looks straight in the camera in all the shots. I know this is common with this type of shots, but perhaps some experimenting would bring about something even better.

Not sure why these are in this forum? But assume its for critique (even though there is a forum for critique)...Theres a couple of really good ones in there...Possibly crying out for a hair light? Nice 1st attempt.

Yes, there's a different forum for critique.

Thanks again for the advice. Where is a good forum for critique? I used a hairlight but didn’t want to overdue it … it appears I might have under did it! Main was f11 and the hairlight was f5.6. Maybe next time f8 or even f11. Thanks again!

In my experience, your hairlight must be stronger than the mainlight by 1-2 stops for you to see it. Easy to experiment in digital so you can determine this easily.

Several straight shadows on the face...ie: B&W's looks like mirror line??....

Be carfull posting images that big..very easy to copy and yes with a little fractile work, then print...

Dear Bric

I see what you mean by the straight shadow lines. This was caused by a small strobe with barn doors not adjusted correctly. I’ve been pretty successful with traditional portrait lighting and decided to try something different. The studio setup was attempting to draw attention to the lovely curves of the model. A large 6-foot Softbox directly at 90 degrees to the subject on the left side - f11; 3-foot Softbox with the diffuser recessed for stronger lighting about 50 degrees also on the left side of the model - f16; Large 6 foot reflector directly off to the right of the model for fill - f8; Two hairlight strobes (obviously not bright enough) - f5.6 and f8; Barn door strobe on right side (down low about 3 feet) –f8. Learning from this session: a) more hairlight, b) forget the barn doors – she didn’t need the extra emphasis on her curves. As far a copying the images … I hear ya! I’ll most likely take the site down soon. There is a copyright notice but hasn’t stopped illegal activity before – especially on the net! Fortunately the site only has a small number of images I shot that day with good representation but not the best…..

Thanks all for the advice … it just gets better and better!
