Well I shot this with the wrong WB, and I could get it back somewhat, but I thought I would try and see how it looked in B&W. The color version of this looks good too, but very very warmish!

Manual exposure
ISO:400
Aperature:f/1.6
Shutter 1/60
no flash... light was from a nearby table lamp.

Lookin at this after posting... the jpeg compression really kills the sharpness and contrast. You should see how this looks full size and in print.

I think it's nice...good save. Now you're always going to shoot in RAW mode, right?

Very nice job. Light is exceptional. I like it a lot. The glasses even came out good. And a handsome young man too.

Excellent save John. It looks well exposed with good contrast.
Good looking young man.

Just one thought: Shooting RAW may avoid those annoying WB problems. :)

Best Regards

Wow.. thanks all. I think this was the best response I've gotten for one of my posts.

As far as shooting raw goes... :P Yeah, that would help. So would selecting the correct white balance to start with. haha. I only have a single 512 MB flash card so I guess I was trying to economize. But I'll have to stop thinking like that... *tells self* "must shoot RAW"

mickle - thank you very much, and I fully intend to. :)

ACDC - LMAO! Well, since you said he looked like "the kid", I'll laugh about it. Had you said he looked like present day Macauly, I'd be very offended. That dude grew up FUGLY for being such a cute kid.

Daragh - I appreciate that. My wife just loves it and so do I>

a few commenst here.
1. great shot, cute kid.
2. he does not look like the present or post version of that kid from home alone.
3. i feel really bad for him having bad eyes. i grew up with bad eyes (worse now) and it stinks. sad part is when i was younger we didnt have enough money for glasses so i squinted alot. (smittymike19 plays violin for himself). glasses are really pretty expensive (my current ones were almost 600 us dollars, with my insurance they were like 380) thats half of my first L lens. hmm, maybe they make L lenses in my prescription, i can just use one and wear it like a monocluar...now thats some thinking...lol

Fantastic shot. I'm really surprised that the light is from a table lamp - guess the b&w hides the colour of the light :) To me it looks like a naturally lit shot, and until i read your post, I had assumed it was natural light.

Anyway, great shot, and it's shots like this that still make b&w so popular!

This is really great! I'm a huge fan of b&w these days and feel that you've captured his essence in this image.

Take a pic with his hands on the face, mouth open etc like the kid in Home Alone 1,( like in shock and glasses off, in B&W
