Just got my Canon EOS D10 - love it already. I noticed one problem, the filenames in the camera. The files I expected to start as 001-0001 and it starts as
889-9867??????
Anybody have any idea why??
Thanks

Is it the D10, or the 10d?

Its the 10D - sorry for the typo - I don't think Canon makes a D10? So isn't that a mute point??

Did you mean mute or moot? :D (Sorry)
I think there's a menu option to reset the file numbering. If you inserted an already-used CF card, it probably picked up the number from that. (There's a menu option controlling that too.)

When I got my 10D it picked up the numbering sequence from my D60 via the CF cards. It was interesting since the first card was brand new, it started with 0001, but then went to 8900s, when I put in a card from my D60.

If you aren't sure which camera you have, then advice gets very complicated.

Did you send your camera for repair ?
Did you introduce a CF coming from an other camera ?

I had the exact same thing happen to me with my new 10D and existing D60 and had to reset the numbering sequence. If you swap cards between the two cameras, you need to format them beforehand on your computer, otherwise they will inherit each other numbering schemes.
As for a menu option to prevent that, I sure can't find it, but would like to know if one exists.
