Of these two lenses for use on 10D, which one would you pick and why? Besides the obvious "Canon" brand name reason.
I don't know anything about Tamron.

The EF 28-200.. The Tamron XR made the top lens in some contest..but that was just price/size somethhing.. You will not be gettign top performance wiht the EF 28-200.. but better than with an 28-300..
What you really want to do after spending you money on an DSLR-house is : Get two lenses.. Like EF 24-85 and the EF 70-200/4L

Jeppe,
If you do decide to go with an "alternative" lens./ you may want to look at the Sigma 28-300mm. It is about $100.00 less than the Tamron.

Huh? Me?
No way im wasting my money on an 28-xxx superzoom.. They just cant handle any focal length good (or as good as i want)

Sorry I meant Charr5 of course!
I did not mean to upset your strong dedication to "Canon"-ical ethics :) (kidding) :)

Can't speak for the Canon 28-200, but I purchased the Tamron 28-300XR lens for travel. I have the Canon 75-300IS lens and I compared the shots from it and the Tamron and they were compareable. I got the Tamron as I wanted to be able to take only one lens that would cover most ranges at places like WDW.

I have a Tamron28-200. I am quite satisfied. Try one out. Save a lot of money, and use it to buy Canon 50mm F1.8

I have both these lenses... I bought the Canon 28-200 because my other Canon lenses were good and the Tamron 28-300 after seeing the results from my wifes new Tamron 28-200 coupled with good reviews of the 28-300.
I had suspicions that the Canon lens was not performing as well as it should so I tested it with the Tamron 28-300 and a couple of other lenses side by side.... the Canon came last for image quality! The Tamron was pretty good. Not as good as my Canon 28-135IS but certainly better than the Canon 28-200 which was no way as sharp on my 10D.
For info the tiny Tamron 28-200 produced images almost up to the same standard as the 28-135.
