Welcome to the forum :)

Sounds like you need a lot of help. What equipment have you available to work with? Also, do you have any preference for taking the portraits indoors or outside?

There are lots of resources online. You can simply Google photography portrait techniques and get lots of links. But, without specifics, there is little we can do to assist you. We don't know what kind of equipment you're using, what type of lighting you have available, what your existing experience level is, or what type of portraits you are interested in shooting. More detail would be most helpful.

In the meantime, I can suggest perusing the Learning Forums at www.photo.net, as well as some of the online tutorials at Kodak.

I've also published a few techniques on my site at http://www/mac-photo.net - but mine aren't work safe so be warned.

Have a look through the People section of the forum. If you find a photo you like, try asking the original poster about how they achieved it.

I'm sure that if you posted some photos, many of the POTN regulars would be happy to give you some feedback. The proper forum for that, though, is probably the People forum.

If you wanted to put an image or two in this thread we could give you some pointers, but you're more likely to get more feedback in the other forum.
