I have an s400 and am using a 512mb scandisk ultra compactflash card. When I have 119 pictures left, it will not save the picture i take. I have reformatted the card (in camera reformat) and it will save the pictures untill I get to 119 remaing then it will not save anymore.

I did read about buying a cf reader and running scandisk to recover corrupted pictures. I can transfer all pictures to computer up until the 119 remaining mark. After that when I try to take a picture, it takes the picture but then when it go to save to cf card it says "memory card error."

Is there anyway to fix the card without sending it off?

All pictures were taken in superfine large mode.

Any help would be great, Dan

What is the capacity that your camera shows on the lcd-screen when you insert the card? And what does your PC say when you look at the properties of the card or use scandisk (full options) ??? If it doesn't show you the full capacity it means your card is defective. You can also try to format the card in your PC and copy 500 Megs af data to it. If gives an error also you will have to return the card.

I don't have a cf reader so I haven't done the scandisk check yet.

When I insert the card into the camera it works just fine until it gets to the 119 pictures left point. Then it says "memory card error". I can reformat the card and then take pictures until the 119 mark then I get the same error.

I also did another test...when I use rapid picture mode it will say "E22" in the bottom left corner of the screen then it will shut down. I have searched the web trying to find what I presume to be Error #22 but have been unable to find it.

Does anyone know what this means?

Dan

The description belonging to that code is "irrecoverable error". It doesn't say what the error is, but the irrecoverable part says it all

I was finally able to fix the memory card error I was getting on my Canon. After almost throwing the camera away, I did a last search online and found a way to fix it that worked for a lot of people. What you need to do is open the camera and remove the camera's internal battery and insert it again. This might seem like a major task, but it's actually not all that complicated (although if you are not comfortable with opening electronic devices and handling tiny screws, you might want to stay away). Here's a diagram to help you out: http://www.huroncamera.com/diagrams/Canon_Digital/POWERSHOT_S400_IXUS_400.pdf (the battery is part #3 on page 4). Don't be scared with the diagram, as you won't have to take the entire camera apart. You will only need to open up the camera. Good luck!
