The time has finally come for me to drop the $$$ and get a camera that will better meet my needs. I starting to get alot more Freelance gigs for the local newspapers and The low light situations I'm encountering at some of these events are really pushing my poor Digital Rebel's(300d) limits.

I'm gonna pick up a 24-70L and a 50 f/1.4 with whichever camera I buy.

The 2 Cameras I'm trying to decide between are the 5D & 1D MK IIn.
Noise at High ISO is my main concern.
Megapixel & Cropfactor is Second
Could someone tell me which will preform better noisewise with high ISO.

I have yet to run into a situation where I need the UZI speed of the MK II but if the MK II handles noise just as well as the 5D I think I would spring for that for the weather sealing and body construction.

I enjoy shooting Landscapes as well so the 5d wins out there.
They are so close in price but i want each for different situations.

Anyone have any anwsers or recomendations.

edit* I just checked out the review of the 5d on dpreview and they have some noise comparisons between the 5d and 1d MkII. Is there any difference between the 1d MK II and 1d MKIIn when it comes to noise?
It's also hard to compare with the images they show there. if anyone has some examples of lowlight shots with either camera, please feel free to post it here.

thanks

Difficult choice! Press and reportage types do tend to favour the speed and weather resistance of the 1DMK11, whilst for landscapes the 5D has definite advantages, being full frame, and you'd get the full field of view of the 50mm 1.4 which is a superb lens for low light work.

If it's any help, the 1DMK11N's bigger sensor gives significant improvement in FOV over your rebel, and many landscape photographers opt for it for it's weather resistance, so it might be your best choice overall given your intended uses?

Or just get both!

From what i've read the 5D and 1DMK2 are similar when it comes to high ISO noise, so the choice really comes down to the fast, tough, heavier 1.3X 1D with better AF, or the full frame 5D. I didn't go for the 5D myself, I got an extra 20D, but a 1 series is on my radar screen for a year or so's time.

They are both pretty close in noise. I did some comparative tests between the 20D, 5D and 1DMKII. You can see them -- here --. (http://www.pbase.com/ssim/comparative_iso_tests)

Assuming that the two cameras handle the noise the same to a point where you are satisified then it comes down to camera handling and the associated functions that add value for you. Knowing what I know now and I could only pick between the two I would get the MKII. I say this because it fits better for my style of shooting wildlife which I like the FPS on the MKII.

I had the same choice, and I picked the 1D Mark IIN. I just figured if I was going to spent that much money, I wanted a pro camera built rugged and to last. Besides, I don't shoot much wide angle, so the 1.3 crop factor was better for me.
