I have noticed, looking around on the internet, that there are two drastically different prices for this camera. Some stores sell for $7999 and many others are selling it in the $6800 range. I called Broadway Camera and they insist that I am getting a "US" model with Canon warrantee for $6850. Is this really a "grey market" price and if so, what disadvantage is there to buying so-called "grey market"

Broadway Camera,. A&M,. HotBuysElectronics,. etc....

These places are really Scary! :(

For the investment you are about to undertake would advise against dealing with such a sketchy dealer. The thrive on Grey Market products, and they absolutely will not service or support what they sell. If you end up with a lemon and no USA warranty???? :(

Try going to this site,.

And type in the vendor you are looking at,. I'm afraid Broadwayphoto won't turn up a lot of positive reviews.

Will Canon USA repair "grey market" stuff - at a cost of course. If so, is it worth taking the risk that something will go wrong in the first year for a $1200 difference in price?

Be sure and ask what comes with the camera. I call to order a 1D last year and the battery, charger and cables did not with the camera for the low price. Do not give them you CC number until you know what you will get and the total price including shipping.

I purchased my 1Ds at Riggs Camera about two months ago.
$7825 including shipping and a 250 CF card. US wty card
with it and I could not be happier.

Wait until you get this camera!
Best,
Tom
