I'm actually kind of glad they didn't drop the price point. Would have been a dumb move - would have devalued the devices currently owned by people just by setting a lower price to compete with the Kindle Fire.

That being said, I always skip a generation with this stuff, and since I have the iPad2, I'll wait for the next iPad to replace it.

That is the motto for all apple products :D

I know the "dirty little secret" though...

You might sit up there freezing your butt off for a week and not see a single aircraft! I know people who've made the trek and come home empty handed (empty carded?)

It would have to be part of a larger itinerary to the UK or Europe in general.

Still rockin' a 3G iPad MkI and still pretty happy with it.

Phone though is getting long in the bluetooth and will probably be the next upgrade

My one big regret was that I didn't wait for the first iPad 3G. They weren't available when Apple released the first iPad, and didn't become readily available for a while. What was I thinking?

well, now with the armed forces returning, the MOD cash flow being slashed as part of the government cuts, and the harrier being retired...

I have the 3G 64 and Kristy has the non-3G 32.

Only regret here is that we should have gotten Kristy 3G capability. Didn't realize that she'd get into certain apps (games) that kind of rely on the web to use effectively.

we bought the iPad2 when it came out, 64GB - non-3G, but purely for skyping back home and to family. I already pay plenty for my iphone, I can't justify spending more per month for 3 or 4G on an ipad - yet. Unless I get a hefty pay increase!

Well, if I sell my 5Dc and buy a 5D Mark iii, that's skipping a generation, right? :D

are you needing us to convince you to buy the 5D3? You should have preordered the day it came out.

Mistabernie

I made a deal with my wife - if I can secure enough side jobs to pay for it by the end of the summer, I can buy one. Notice, I'm not running out and scheduling jobs just to justify it. I haven't even really done much with my 5D2 yet - got it in February, still under 500 clicks (the night I had it out with the Boston meetup was like the second day I had it).

G12 is slowly coming down in price.. I've seen them recently around the $350 mark which seems like a pretty good deal. I have to imagine getting rid of an old iPad would do wonders to get you towards the goal of getting one of those little guys (I am almost sad that I didn't just cough up the extra money and get that instead of the S95, but I got mine from the ridiculous Amazon deal they had not too long before Christmas - $229 I believe - and couldn't pass it up).

True story, I buy cell phones more regularly than I buy clothing.

Hey Mel.

My neighbor was laid to rest today, had seven service men at the grave site. 4 fired rifles, 1 was on the bugle, and the other 2 at the casket. We had 40mph gusts, I give those guys credit for the tight fold they preformed on the flag. They also gave the wife the shells in a little black bag, I've never been to a military service like this, very touching indeed.

I bought and installed the upgrade yesterday but I haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet. Sounds like I should keep using v3.6 until they have a new update. The folks over on the Lightroom Forums (http://www.lightroomforums.net/) are reporting a few weird bugs, too. The main gripe there seems to be that when LR4 converts your LR3 catalogs it loses all tone curves you have applied to your images. That can make a huge difference to the final outcome of an image...

Woolburr
8th of March 2012 (Thu), 02:36
Yeah....I've seen some talk about the curves being messed up. Fortunately, I don't do curves in LR....I do them over in PSE.

FlyingPhotog
8th of March 2012 (Thu), 02:37
Guess I'll hold off on snagging LR4.

Wonder if they'll tweak it before the current pricing deal runs out though. :(

Woolburr
8th of March 2012 (Thu), 02:40
Seems like that might be a very short turn around. The good thing is that you can download and not install.....or install and not import any catalog. So you could get it and experiment with it one image at a time instead of putting your entire catalog(s) at risk.

FlyingPhotog
8th of March 2012 (Thu), 02:43
Good point...

Did you have the Beta installed and just drop a key in or did you install from scratch?

thomascanty
8th of March 2012 (Thu), 02:50
It leaves your LR3 catalogs alone when it converts. It just creates a new version of it for LR4. So, I wouldn't say you're putting your catalog at risk. You can always go back to the LR3 one and convert it again when they fix LR4.

Good point...

Did you have the Beta installed and just drop a key in or did you install from scratch?

I never did install the Beta. I tried to put it on my "experimental" computer, but that system runs XP and LR4 no longer supports XP. And, I never got around to installing it on my Win7 machine.

But, the Beta version had a hard-coded time limit. It isn't the same as the final release. You'd have to install the new one fresh.

I didn't play with the Beta either. I downloaded the release.

Good to know... I'll go nuke the Beta then and see what's up with a 4.1

There is a note that if you install the Beta, you have to uninstall it for LR4 to install properly.

Mornin', guys. I bought the release and installed it yesterday. I haven't done anything with it yet except play with one old image. Nothing startling, and no problems. I still have the previous two iterations of LR installed on the computer, so going back shouldn't be a problem, even if I'm just feeling nostalgic.

Anyone hear any screams from up north? I'm just curious if the boyfriend has used the razor yet.

I guess you could always buy it and not install it until 4.1 comes out. I'm sure Adobe will fix it. I bought my upgrade through the Educational channel and something went wrong there for sure. Even though I'm the signatory on one of their six figure Education CLP's, I'm having a hard time convincing them I qualify for the Education discount. Go figure. ???

I am having serious doubts about LR4....this is acting weirder and weirder. I have to restart it after every image I edit.
Odd. I installed LR4 yesterday and have been moving over all my scanned pics. So far I have had no issues with it at all. It's been stable and fast. Today I got to get the NIK filter thing ironed out. Those did not come over.

I had most of my images in the 'missing images' temporary catalog when I installed LR4 (which I did without uninstalling beta, but I believe it uninstalled it for me because it deleted my beta icon), but as of right now nothing appears to be actually missing. Also, LR couldn't find some of my folders (I think I closed it during the initial import of my LR3 catalog), and when I pointed out the first one, the rest didn't automatically update finding them in the appropriate location, but I'm not too sure it did that in the first place. Other than that, I've had no real issues, but it's a bit slower than LR3 when I click on the develop tab.

Geez. I didn't realize we had to change clocks again so soon. Other than losing the hour's sleep, I actually like daylight savings. Longer evenings are good for walking/bike riding, and this puts us on the same time as Arizona. Our last drive over to Scottsdale was remarkable for two reasons: we had to replace the battery in the car, and we arrived an hour later than we had planned because it was the time of year when they're an hour ahead of us.

Too confusing.

In a way, Arizona and California share more than a border. We're sort of 'joined at the hip' because of our proximity. Phoenix is closer to greater SoCal than San Francisco, and because of its sprawl has a similar look and feel. And for people like me, downtown Phoenix is only 90 miles farther than downtown Los Angeles.

Yep, we;re almost cousins.

I just do myself. In the fall I presure wash off all the road grime, lube up the chain, let the air out of the tires. I'll fill'em up, take the wheels off and repack the bearings, adjust the derailleurs and cables, lube all the moving parts and replace the speedometer battery and I'm good to go.
