The TC gives you some extra distance.....and in the case of this combo, the tube is necessary to mate the lens to the TC since the 100L is not TC compatible.I see.

All the pancake fans can have my share.....and I'll eat your share of the waffles. I've tried lots of pancakes over the years and I've never had one anywhere that I was particularly fond of.

*sigh*

Yeah, I've had some decent pancakes, but none come close to the good waffles I've had.

In the end though, french toast beats them both.

Waffle iron french toast, waffle iron cookies, and it goes on and on.

In a nutshell - if you put the TC on the lens and the tube on the TC, you won't get as close a focusing distance as if you put the tube on the lens and the TC on the tube. Because the TC acts on what's in front of it, and the tube acts on what's in front of it. So:
100 mm lens, 1.4x TC, 12 mm tube (say an Asanuma TC, which will attach to the 100 directly).
100 + 1.4x TC + 12 mm tube = 12 mm extension on a 140 mm lens. You're extending the 140 mm lens 12 mm.
100 + 12 mm tube + 1.4x TC = 17 mm extension on a 140 mm lens. You're magnifying the 100 mm lens+12 mm tube 1.4x.

Apple really screwed up the iPad 3. They advertised it as LTE/4G capable in Europe knowing that USA and Europe use different frequencies and those in Europe are not supported. Man that has pissed of the Apple users. But guess what Apple gets away with it because the Apple fans still buy anything Apple makes regardless of faulty/missing advertised functionality.

"Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated..."

There's lots of good looking items on their menu, too.

Still, I'm craving that good ol' down-home cheeseburger and root beer float... ;)

We have actually gotten rid of all our Teflon and aluminum cookware and cook cast iron only. Teflon has some whacky carcinogenic chemical in it and aluminum supposedly contributes to Alzheimer. We have been aluminum free for maybe 20 years and ditched the Teflon about 5 years ago.

I have never really liked Teflon for cooking. I like what it does for non-stick, but I don't like how it comes off. I have a big stock pot that is Teflon coated and the coating has gotten so thin over the years that it's not working anymore. I don't like the idea of where it's gone.

I have one aluminium frying pan, which I am actually using at the moment. It's square and holds 4 hamburgers perfectly. I will probably never give it up.

When Mom and Dad got married my Uncle gave them a big set of cast iron. I love cast iron. When I get a place of my own I want a big set for myself.

All of my cooking pots are stainless steel.

Just got back from the zoo. You guys are going to have to suffer through some animal pics.
BTW, I've come to the conclusion that Brookfield zoo i not a photo friendly zoo. It's very hard to take a picture that doesn't look zoo-ish.

They never played it :(

Dinner went well, slideshow was a hit, speeches were short, no body got killed (even though my table was the last to get to eat), and the dance went ok.

Paid photogs stuck around long enough that I didn't have to do much.

Dealing with a bridezilla, yes, one tends to get grouchy. Try wrangling a couple of hungry, hyper kids for never ending pictures when no one can even agree on where to stand or who should be in the picture.

I did that for too many years....have no desire to go back, even though it was a nice little sideline gig.

Unfortunately thats true for so many zoo's. The best thing to do is to go for real tigth closeups. I am going to the zoo again today. I think I will test my 400 mm f5.6L plus 1,4x extender on my 5D3.

The latest and greatest in 5D3 bashing..........

OMG Canon has stuck it to us again. I carefully crafted this image in camera, nailing the exposure. I then imported the photo into LR4 and maxed the Shadows and Blacks sliders. Then I reimported the LR4 edited image into LR3 where I maxed the Fill Light and the Blacks sliders. I then exported the image to PSCS5 where I did an AutoLevel correction. I took a 400% crop of the resultant image and the pattern noise is simply intolerable. Canon should be ashamed of themselves for selling this crap.

 Are these buffoons for real?

Drunken Wedding Guest Arrested - Slow Dances With Groom, Brawls With Bride Brooke Burke (Image credit: North Olmsted Police)

A guest at an Ohio wedding wound up in jail charged with assault and intoxicated disorderly conduct. It all began when she refused to stop slow dancing with the groom, which escalated into a brawl with the bride and an attack on an off-duty police officer.

Dan Kuack was patrolling the St. Clarence Church Pavilion in North Olmsted, Ohio, on Saturday when he heard a woman "yelling and screaming at two unknown males," according to the police report.

Kuack approached the group in the parking lot and found that the two men were trying to keep the woman, Brooke Burke, from driving off in her car because she was allegedly drunk. She was yelling because they'd taken her keys, the police report stated.

The police officer calmed Burke down and took her back into the reception hall.

At that point the bride, Margaret Burke, told Kuack that Brooke had tried to assault her earlier in the evening, according to the report.

The bride said it all started when she'd asked Burke to stop slow dancing with her new husband. She said Burke became upset and started yelling at her, and at one point tried to hit her.

"Brooke turned around and started to approach the bride and began to yell at her and attempted to grab her," the police report stated.

Burke is believed to be the bride's sister in law, but neither responded to requests for comment.

As Kuack tried to get Burke to sit down, "She fell to the ground kicking and screaming and being belligerent," according to the report.

Burke struck the officer on the left side of his face several times, leading to redness and swelling. He restrained her on the table and radioed for help, according to the arrest report.

The bride said Burke's behavior stemmed from her being "very intoxicated," and when another officer asked her about hitting Kuack, Burke said she had only done that because she was drunk.

Burke was released from jail and is scheduled to appear in court April 10.

...or the drunk gets in a car and kills or maims someone. A very good friend, who was a star athlete, was crippled for life by a drunk driver. Not my idea of entertainment. :(

Kudos to the guys who took this woman's car keys.

I still struggled keeping the camera steady enough to get proper focus :-( So the extender was only on for a short while. Another thing I tried was video and oh boy the video is really shaken even when using the monopod.

I got s little surprice though. The zoo keepers have starting flying with a Kookaburra. They now fly with Horned Owls, Harris Hawks and Kookaburra. Hoping I got some good shots of the Kookaburra. The downside is that the bird is very new to this so the keepers only flew it very short distances so no chance of getting it in the air with either sky or green background.

I so am tempted to just close of delete such threads. Why are they trying to do stuff that they would never do in a real situation. Like the leaking ligth from the top lcd. As long as there is nothing wrong with the resulting photos who the heck cares if there is a ligth leak from the lcd to the ligth meter??

This was a total experiment. ISO 12800, AF center point only. The picture makes it look bright, but it was almost pitch dark. You could barely see the bats with eyes only. I'm surprised that the focus got so close and the exposure looks like it was well lit. :)

When I was in Florida last year shooting the Discovery launch I started by using my 100-400 and the 1.4 Extender. Even with the IS in the 100-400 and a monopod, I had a hard time keeping it steady. I took the 1.4EX off and shot the launch without it. I could not imagine doing it without the IS.

Like you, I'd be more interested in the light leak discussion if someone could show that it affects the resulting photograph.
