Thats what we have on Mayras bike. Trying to get her comfortable first on those before attempting to transition her to clip in pedals.

I've used rat traps before and they are fine for road cycling. I debated clipless, but one of the stumbling blocks is finding a manufacturer that makes shoes that actually fit. Seems like they think everyone riding has size 11(or smaller) extra narrow feet. Having exceptionally wide feet is a pain, having size 13 or 14 extra wide feet is a nightmare.

Most of the time, you will find me in sandals....with as close to being barefoot soles as you can find. I really dislike wearing shoes, but it seems like every time I
go barefoot in the summer....I step on a bee and end up spending my day in the ER....and during the winter, bare footing causes my stupid toes to keep turning blue!

If I am not wearing sandals....these frequently fill the bill. (https://encrypted-tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRH76j00AqD5chzK7TyVSfu5HJQtBdac OoSvOJkKZaTy8DmFOP4_A) But they aren't real cool for weddings, funerals and the lot.

Consider yourself lucky. Up to size 12, you typically have a pretty good selection. Beyond that, the pickings get considerably slimmer. Never understood why they quit making 1/2 sizes beyond 11 1/2.

I too am a sandal wearer, well flip flops, but it' almost the same thing. :) These are the pair I wear for work. They look fancy enough to be a semi-dress shoe but they are comfortable as heck. Plus, the sole is really tough so nothing gets through.

We've been in this house 11 years, and since it was new when we bought it, we've had to do very little. It's starting to show its age a bit, but I think a fresh coat of paint on the interior and some new carpets will do wonders. Basically, we like the house, and have few complaints, if any. It does have a lot of wasted space that I wish was incorporated into the rooms we actually use, but that's not really a complaint. If we ever sell this place, those rooms might be important to a potential buyer.

We have a lot of activity in the desert this weekend. The Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival (http://www.coachella.com/index.php) is going on now, and hordes of people have descended on our quiet little valley (last weekend, too). This is an annual event that has turned into a really big deal, and the traffic it brings has become insane. They're holding it at the Empire Polo Club in Indio. Almost all the parking is remote, so there are hundreds of buses churning around town running back and forth between the venue and the numerous remote parking lots. It really has things gummed up for the locals who want to go to the store, etc., but the money's good I'm told. These people are paying $300 per ticket for a weekend pass. That sure sounds like a lot to me, especially since most of the attendees are teens and young adults. Typically there are lots of arrests for drugs and public drunkenness at these events.

The ultimate revenge for all the inconvenience.......it's going to be at least 104º both days, and there is absolutely no shade on the polo grounds. No doubt that will exacerbate the drinking problem, and I expect the local hospitals will have lots of new customers suffering various heat-related afflictions. Serves 'em right for messing up our local traffic.

Being 'in the business,' I've bought lots of houses to renovate and resell, but never to live in. With the exception of this house (and one other), we've always bought resale properties, and always left them much improved from when we moved in. It's just the natural thing to do, and I don't think we're unusual in that regard.

Even on this house, though we haven't done much to it, we always upgrade when something has to be fixed. We've had to replace all the kitchen appliances and some of the plumbing fixtures, and have generally tried to put in the very best we could afford. We had the exterior repainted a couple years ago, but that was because we hated the color.

The previous person who sold us this house would not recognize it today. We've done a lot in the 12 years I've been here, but I'd really like to settle into a "maintenance mode" for a while and not take on any more projects for a few years. Unfortunately, it looks like its going to take a few more years before I get to that point with the landscaping, garden, driveway repairs, and french drains I need to install, repair, or otherwise improve.

We've been in this house for 28 years this June and we've never done any major renovations. The place desperately needs work but finding the time and money to do it is the problem. The only thing that is actually failing us is the bathtub. It is original to the house (1971) and is losing all it's finish. Never use CLR to clean a tub! It "cleans" so well it took the finish right off. We have off and on been making plans on what to do for renovating the bathroom, but coming up with the final decisions has been difficult. And the whole issue that it is the only bathroom in the house. When we do get around to working on it, we'll be stripping it right down and replacing the drywall and potentially some studs/flooring, depending on how far the water leak migrated.

I figure we'll have to set up an outdoor shower and rent a porta-potty. Which means we need decently warm weather first.

Someday, when I get really, really, really adventurous we need to do something about the siding. The whole house has redwood cedar siding that has always been painted white. But paint doesn't stick to the oily wood for more than about a year. I would like to remove all the paint and use a clear stain to seal the wood. But sanding an entire house is a project that scares me!

Same here.. we bought our house new in 2000 but haven't done anything other than paint. There are a handful of things that need fixing now, and I'd love to chang up a couple of things, but... time and money are never in synch... guess I chalk it up to raising 2 kiddos... ;)

We are about to paint again in a couple of weeks, and maybe add some hardwood flooring... that should spruce things up a bit.

NICE job on the remodel there JJ....! Wow... :D Maybe I should invite you to come and supervise my husband... lol.. He offers cocktails....

The only structural thing I'd like to change is to raise the cut-out by the kitchen table.. I love the open space, but it's low enough that I can't really put picutres or cute candles on it... lol. ;) Plus the kids try to sit on it sometimes.. 12-18 inches higher would probably do the trick.. lol.. ;)

Laundry is gathered, sorted, and load #2 is in the washer. Will have a backup waiting for the dryer to finish. The old, weak, tiny thing just cannot keep up with the new large capacity washer. When my sister and her boyfriend finally move out they had better take that thing with them so I can get a new dryer that will match the capabilities of the washer! 40F and 81% humidity does not allow for drying clothes on the line outside :(

I can't even get up the ambition to do some necessary work around here, much less take on an "improvement" project. Since we don't own the property, there is only so much we can do. The place is in desperate need of paint, but moving all the furniture around and having to contend with four-footed helpers tends to stifle motivation...

When we were really young we didn't even use the rooms in the basement, other than the laundry, pantry, and furnace rooms. Us kids were terrified of the basement. The scariest thing about the basement was that the mop lived down there!

When my father was stationed in Virginia in the early 60's, his rank and assignment entitled him to quarters on the base. We lived in a huge two story house with a full basement. There were two bedrooms on the ground floor, three more on the second floor and a room for a maid in the basement. In addition, there was a full dining room and a screened porch that faced a small lake running the length of the back of the house.

My parents took one of the bedrooms on the ground floor and my father used the other as an office. My brother was in one of the smaller bedrooms on the second floor and I was in the maid's room in the basement. The basement was too cold in the winter so I moved into the master bedroom on the second floor. It was the biggest room I ever had growing up...

That was a great house...

I have been in the same bedroom since I was 5 years old.

When I was born we were living in a rented house on Brigden sideroad. I don't remember much about that place because we moved out of there when I was 18 months old. We then lived in a rented house in town and stayed there until I was 3. I remember the outside of the house well, the play room had green carpet, living room had brown carpet and green wall paper, we had a claw foot tub, there were stairs going up from the kitchen, and the storm door had a mail slot that toy cars fit through.

I fully remember moving here, even though I was only three. Grandma drove a load of stuff over and backed the truck up to the back door. I remember asking her why she was driving Grandpa's truck.

The trip to the Lexus dealer for the oil change was distressing yesterday. They changed the oil, but also informed me that the car needed the following:
150,000-mile service, $695.00 (plus any miscellaneous repairs necessary)
Replace inner and outer boots on passenger side axle, $410.00
Replace spark plugs, $447.00
Very likely brakes, $1,178.00 including new front rotors.

I know the car is getting old, so I'm not terribly surprised at any of this, but I am really torqued about the spark plugs. If you remember, last month I had to replace one ignition coil in the back of the engine, and they had to remove the intake manifold to do it. So why, in the name of all that's holy, didn't they replace the plugs then? Now they say they have to do all that works again to the tune of $345 labor so they can put in new spark plugs that cost $17.00 each.

I do believe the service manager and I going to have a little chat when I'm a little less steamed. I've actually had some success with him in the past.

Ouch!

I would definitely question them on those items.
The CV boots - why? Are they both torn or is this some weird preventative thing?
The brakes - I would definitely want them measured and not go by mileage.
The spark plugs - For sure would be talking with the service manager. When the coil was done they should have done all the plugs, and possibly the back coils (depending on price) just for good measure.

We have several vehicle models that need to have the manifold removed to access the back plugs and coils. If that manifold is coming off, the plugs automatically get replaced. (unless they are fairly new)

At that mileage there is a grocery list of items that should be serviced or at least inspected. ALL fluids should have been replaced at least once at that point. Including brake fluid and power steering fluid. All filters should have been replaced. Intake and throttle plate cleaned. Plugs/wires, belts, timing belt if it has one. A/C system inspection. All steering and driveline components inspected. Brakes and tires inspected. Alignment check - usually done when installing new tires. All locks, latches, hinges lubricated. Battery and charging system tested. And more things, all depends on the vehicle.

Convincing a customer that this stuff needs to be done is the difficult part. But when that system fails due to lack of maintenance, I have no problem explaining why the lack of maintenance caused the failure. ;)

I usually end up with at least $800 when I bring my 4 Runner in for a major service. But that includes brakes, alignment, all the 4WD drive train, all fluids, and the engine.

Still cheaper than a car payment for a new one.

My manager told me about one customer they used to have. He'd bring his van in for an oil change and always maintained the position that if anything needed to be fixed was to be fixed. As long as it cost less that $400. He didn't want to know about it, just do the work.

His mindset was that new vehicle payments would be around $400, so as long as his vehicle was costing him less than a new vehicle payment he would keep it. The moment it needed more than that, he'd buy a new vehicle.

People have asked me "how do I know when it's time to get rid of my car". I always tell them that when the monthly (yearly) repairs cost near or more than the payments for something newer, it's time to upgrade.

I added some bottles to my collection this evening. I've never had Cognac before but I bought this on Omar's recommendation. It's a celebratory bottle for paying off my car. The Elijah Craig was just a long past due addition.

Just back from visiting over 13 different shoe retailers with my 12-year old daughter.... She's in a wedding, and needs a particular shoe color which isn't all over the shelves... and when I do find it, the flipping heels are at least 4-inches.... so not appropriate for my young daughter who will fall on her face while walking down the (outdoor garden setting grass) isle...

And at a shoe size larger than mom... we can't fit into the kids department anymore.... so it's either grandma style shoes that she protests, or 4-6 inch heels..... and a couple things in between that just aren't quite right....

I'm sure you can all relate.....:lol: Ain't it good to be a man! lol.. ;)
