I'm impressed, but I'd like to see the video! ;-)
Speaking of speed, Comcast just finished installing a new Cisco internet cable modem and tweaking a couple of connections. The improvement is noticeable. Speed wasn't really the issue, the old modem kept dropping out and resetting itself a couple of times a day, sometimes more. Hopefully they fixed it. So far so good.

My cable modem has been quickly developing the old "stop responding" problem recently, requiring me to unplug it for about 15 seconds, then plugging it back in to reset the connection. This is now the third modem I've had since I got Road Runner/Time Warner cable in August 2007 that has died from the same exact symptoms. They've all been different brand names, too. This current one is a Cisco modem. I don't remember what the previous two were, though. Some weird brand names I'd never heard before. When they gave me this Cisco modem I thought I'd finally have a reliable modem, since I at least recognized the name...

The net nerds at work recommend buying the Motorola SB6121 and not paying the cable "rental fee" for the modem.
They were also talking in a foreign language about older modems not being compatible with DOCIS 3? What ever that means...

Grrrr......
Just had someone on FB ask if anyone knows of a good, honest, and quality place to get brake inspections done. Naturally I said my workplace, figuring that someone would trust someone they know. Brake inspections and quotes are free, no commitment. Then someone else started posting the "dealerships are evil and will rape you for all your worth" rant. Seriously people. Shop around and get prices, then you decide what your brakes are worth to you.

Also make sure you get a DOCSIS 3 compatible modem, it supports higher bandwidths. My modem kicked the bucket about a year ago and I splurged and got the SB6120 DOCSIS 3 modem without knowing much of the benefits, but it made a huge difference in internet speed.

I dunno. A few bucks a month for rent on a cable modem doesn't seem too outrageous for me when they keep giving me a new one at no additional cost whenever I decide I've had enough headaches dealing with it and take it to the local office. When I take this one it, I'll be picking up my fourth one. I think I've at least broken even when it comes to the cost, one way or the other.

Went through the exact same symptoms here with some behind the scenes Internet upgrades by Cox.
Old combo Modem/Router starting throwing random fits, wifi signal drops, hard-wire connectivity weirdness, etc...
New modem and router (single components) cured all. :D

Depends on what the monthly fee is. Here it's $7.00/month, plus the franchise fees and taxes. They cost around $75, so you're ahead after the 10th month.

Several years ago, the cable company-supplied modem died on me. The only way they would replace it was to set up a service appointment, and they would bring one out. That wasn't going to happen for several days, so I asked them if I could just go buy one. They said it was okay, so I picked one up at Best Buy. Several phone calls later it was working. During one of those calls, I asked what I should do with their old one, and the tech told me just to throw it away since it was apparently dead. I happily complied.
Fast forward a couple years when we signed up for digital phone service. The tech shows up to make the installation, and informs me I have the wrong modem, and if I can't produce the old one, they might charge me for it.
Bottom line: that didn't happen.

No box, no picture would equal bankruptcy here. They get 10 bucks a box every month. No way I could afford to have boxes for every set on top of the already absurd monthly bill.

I have jury duty in 2 weeks.
We get called once a year, and we're on standby for a week.
Wife just got a jury summon, and it's for two weeks starting on Memorial Day. I'm wondering if the one-week is now two.
I was told by someone that seemed to know, that at age 70 you can opt out here, which means this could be my last year of jury service. Sadly, I went through their entire website, and saw nothing like that. I suppose a phone call is in order.

I have had jury duty three times but have never been picked. Here we sit for the whole week. Ya go in, sit in the room and periodically they pull you in for the selection process. I have been selected a bunch of times but as soon as i start answering questions, one of the lawyers scratches me off the list. I'm not sure why.

Wow, that sucks. While I hate being on call, at least our system allows you to stay at home or work until you're needed. They give you a juror number and then you can call in, or check in online when/if you have to report. If they don't use you that week, you're done for one year.
I've never been selected. On civil trials they throw me out because I've worked on insurance related litigation. On criminal trials they throw me out because I was a reserve Deputy Sheriff. The only way I'll ever end up on a jury is if the lawyers run out of challenges and they're forced to keep me. In the mean time, they waste of lot of my time and the courts time, but the courts won't give me an exemption.

Morning Tuppers!
In an attempt to re-rail, (pun intended?), I'm looking for some motivation to shoot. Well, okay, I'm looking for a couple of things - motivation to shoot (other than the family session I have coming up for some friends on Saturday, the editing I have to do for the session I had last week, and my two upcoming projects - an 80s Prom style party that I'm shooting, and a wedding on the 19th.
The weather doesn't look like it's going to be all that great for an outdoor shoot, so I'm bringing backdrops for the family shoot. A couple of friends of ours and their daughters (one's two years, one's two months).

The Yogi teas are a decent groceyr store brand with a nice flavor. (I'm definitely not a tea junkie, so I must be easy to please) We do have a few teas that we purchased at Tevana.. but it's kind pricey, so we do them sparingly.. I can make some chilled teas for the girls that they will drink.
I also like this one, kind of a cinnamon undertone, but not too powerful.

From the BBC:
The US consumes more bottles of wine than any other nation in the world. But almost 80 years after the end of Prohibition, buying a drink can still be tricky.
It's illegal, for instance, to buy vodka in Delaware to take to a party in Pennsylvania. And retailers in Maryland are not allowed to ship alcohol to anybody living in another state.
That's because of the 4,000 or so different laws that govern the alcohol industry and give individual states unprecedented rights to regulate sales and consumption within their borders.

Same with Illinois. There are communities where it gets dicey, like Glen Ellen and even Naperville where we can't buy alcohol before noon on Sunday. But those are local where it seems the church has a heavy influence.

The LCBO has a tight grip on the alcohol industry here, but it seems to work fine. Can't serve before 11am or after 2am (I think it's 2 now, used to be 1), and anywhere that wants to sell/serve alcohol has to have a license to do so. All individuals employed to sell/serve have to hold a Smart Serve license. I don't know anything about moving it across borders, but if I buy anything in the US I have to declare it at the border and they have set restrictions on amounts and whatnot.

Actually Arizona had that law too... but I'm pretty sure they changed it from noon to something like 10am on Sundays.
I could be wrong, maybe it's completely over now? I just remember my husband couldn't buy beer before a football game on Sunday morning, so he had to plan ahead and get it the night before...
of course if you are drinking in a bar, or establishment.. the rule doesn't apply.. weird....

No I think that law is still in place, but outside of that it's really very lenient. I mean just the fact that you can walk into a grocery store and walk out with liquor beer and wine.

Pennsylvania (and a couple others) have "State Stores" where you go to buy booze and wine. It's not on store shelves like most places. I remember my first trip to a 7-11 after returning to Michigan from PA in 1990 and being shocked to see pints and half pints for sale behind the counter!
PA also has "Beer Distributorships" where you can only buy by the case. Very few bars could sell a six pack of beer and if they did, it was marked up drastically. They tried to break the beer thing at one point and a few people ended up with cement shoes.
Actually Arizona had that law too... but I'm pretty sure they changed it from noon to something like 10am on Sundays.

PA has some of the most bizarre alcohol laws on the book. NC isn't far behind. You can buy beer and wine anywhere.....but you have to go to a state store to buy anything "harder". There are tons of communities around the state that are "dry". It is really strange to walk into some of the better known tourist towns and discover you can't have a beer with your meal.

They used to do live fire at Ft. Drum. Part of the range is in very close proximity to a major highway. In fact, they used to use the road to line up with the targets, on one stretch of the highway, the road made a big turn and the range was straight ahead. Very uncomfortable to look in your mirror and see one of those bearing down on you at treetop level. Even worse when they unleashed the guns seconds after!

There are tons of communities around the state that are "dry". It is really strange to walk into some of the better known tourist towns and discover you can't have a beer with your meal. And then there's the % alcohol limit on beer. Peabody's up in Boone couldn't get/sell Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA because it's too strong. I was tempted to bring them a "Care Package". Reminded me of the time I tried to order the house IPA at a brewpub in Salt Lake City and they couldn't sell it to me because I was getting my dinner at the bar. If I'd been willing to wait an hour to get a table, I could have ordered it. But then finding a liquor store in Utah's pretty much a question of peeking behind the right door into the right closet.
Nice work Jay, I just saw FB blocked it.

Friend did a 4 wheel drive trip to Cape York (northern tip of Aust.) last year and travelled through a few of these areas. It's not uncommon for tourists to bury their Alcohol on the side of the road and pick it back up on the way back. He ran the advisory line before hand and the advice they gave was totally wrong after checking this against the advice of some police friends.

I actually did some looking into it and never found anything that said I could not bring in my own alcohol.
Actually here is the actual law. I knew I had seen something.
If you purchase products from outside this state or country, you may bring back with your accompanied luggage or on your person the amounts indicated above for malt beverages and wine. No more than four (4) liters of spirituous liquor may be purchased out of the state and brought into North Carolina. You may not ship the products nor have them shipped. If you wish to purchase out of the state a greater amount of wine, you must obtain a Purchase Transportation Permit from your local ABC Board. There are no permits for greater amount of malt beverages or spirituous liquor.

I think I will continue to live in the type of area that I live in. Big properties, no associations, no rules, great views of the rail road, I can and do park wherever I want, I can make all the noise I want, I can have massive bonfires if I want, my garden was originally 60X120 feet (much smaller now), no pesky street lights, just a whole lot of freedom. Heck, we built a massive deck onto the front of our house and never even got a building permit for it.
Same here. We can do anything we want out on our place. :D
