that is great, chief. So with Strava, you put in your route and times, and someone else can do the same thing, you can see if you are doing a similar route and compare times?Apparently. My segments are pretty arbitrary, so I was surprised to see that someone else had selected the same ones.

I am trying to win a KOM (King of the mountain) on a climb by riverdale. I am 4th all time on it as of yesterday's ride. I need to chop off 9 seconds. Motivation! I should have it In a few weeks :D

Good morning. Well, I'm into my final week. One more Tuesday to go.Funny, JJ. I was thinking about that this morning, and trying to think of some special way to mark the occasion. It's too late to send you a cake. I guess I'll just say 'Congratulations', and leave it at that. It's been a long haul, but you made it.

My wife's brother is very unhappy with his current job. The money is outstanding, but he is philosophically opposed to the product they're developing. (an ocular implant that he feels causes more problems than it addresses). He has resigned himself to sticking with it; in the current economy, he knows he's fortunate to be working. He calls it 'Drinking the Kool-Aid.' Today is his birthday, and I gave him five packages of assorted flavors of Kool-Aid. Why not? They were 5 packages for a dollar, and it was cheaper than a cake or balloon. What are friends for?

gjl711
25th of June 2012 (Mon), 10:33
My issue has never been with the product but the environment. It's a dying location and the internal politicking going on to save ones job is so negative and demoralizing that it makes the day to day unbearable. So many times I have been ready to just call it quits.

I suspect I could top a couple of those segments, but it would probably burn me out for the remainder of the ride. In fact, it's probably nothing more than a curiosity to me; I'm just not that competitive, but it is an excellent frame of reference. When you ride by yourself, you really have no idea how fast/slow you are.

Very true. Maybe you could set out to just defeat those segments? Spin easy and just when you know the segment is coming give it a hard push. Then recover for the rest of the ride? STRAVA is great for the rider who is on his own. He is always "riding" against a group :D

They wouldn't have gotten into the US if they did. It was just the line up to get back into Canada. Way too much traffic.

I love that movie!

I was at the Subway sandwich restaurant in Universal City one night, just after midnight, and Randy Quaid was in line behind me. I wanted to say something to him, but I couldn't for the life of me remember what his current movie was. The only thing that kept running through my mind was from that movie where he was emptying the RV's waste tank into the sewer, and when Clark looked at him, he said, "Sh***er's full!"

I kept my mouth shut and didn't say anything...

Many years ago, we took the ferry from Port Angeles, WA, to Victoria BC. While we were there, I bought a lens for my old Pentax SLR that was made in China. In those days, we couldn't buy anything from China, so it was quite a novelty for me, even though the lens was crap.

yeah, it is very fascinating with the aerial photos. I looked at google earth the other day for work, but they also had a slider at the top to go back in time for old photos from 1945 over parts of the UK. Interesting to see how the cities were during the war, and how they are now.

A/C input, engine temperature, intake air temperature, alternator load, transmission range switch, a lot of fun things to track down.

Vacuum leak is often the culprit. A faulty PCV valve or EVAP system can put it up.

Such a simple little thing that can cause so many problems. It's the event that caused me to change the plugs and coils. I figured I had 120k+ miles and it was about time. Changing them made little difference. I picked up the PCV valve just because it was so cheap and it ended up being the part that was bad.

Biggest difference may have been in fuel economy. A lot of vehicles will go forever before the plugs give a problem. But they should be replaced well before they cause problems.

PCV valves are often overlooked nowadays. Two of the kids I work with didn't even know what they were. I bet they would have absolutely no clue how to check them either.

They just opened a Red Lobster restaurant here toady, and we decided to eat there. We had to wait an hour and a quarter for a table. That's an hour and a quarter of my life I'll never get back.

On a scale of 1 to 10, the whole experiences was a solid 4.5. Really mediocre food, which is sad. We used to eat at a Red Lobster when we lived in the Bay Area, and their food was usually pretty good. We had really been looking forward to this place opening. Otherwise, I would never wait that long for a table in a restaurant. I'm seriously doubting we'll ever go back. Sad.

I like Rusty, with another vote from Morgan. Tracey's not sure and Aaron doesn't even know at this stage and hasn't voted yet.

He's at a Junior Physics Olympiad at University of Queensland every day this week with special seminar until 8pm tonight. Unfortunately he's not enjoying it as much as he hoped.

The dog is a surprise for the kids, although we've been discussing it for a while. Now the back yard needs to be dog escape proofed. About 20m down one side has a 3-6" gap under the bottom of the fence.

Awww nice addition Greg!

I'm missing something here.

Sad.

The only reason i step into a red lobster:

Admittedly, they were the best part of the meal. The trick was getting the waitress to refill the basket. As busy as they were yesterday, it was hard getting her eye to ask for more. In the long run, we were probably better off.

there isn't a red lobster here....or in new england at all, i don't think. we just get the real deal lobsters ;) On a trip back from Maine a while ago (well quite a while ago) I picked up a Styrofoam case containing a couple file lobsters and brought them home. (Pre-9-11 when you could actually take things onto the airplane. ;) ) My wife had a hard time cooking them because she claimed that they screamed when put into the pot. Well, I dunked in the next one and after a little banging around sure enough, heard a sound that sounded like a scream. They still tasted so good though.

you still can take live lobsters on planes. I see it all the time. They are packed in seaweed and dry ice to keep them cool and fresh.

Taste so, so, so good though :D

But there will be new Tuesday's!!I've been working with the new people already and I must say it's like night and day. Personalities can so make or break an office. The expectations are just as high or higher but there is greater emphasis on personal responsibilities and getting your job done and less on blame and nit picking.

You'd scream too if you were dunked into a pot of boiling water. Your supposed to fill the pot with cold water, put the lobster in, and then heat the water. The change in temperature is slow enough that the lobster doesn't notice until it's cooked.

I have always brought the pot to a full boil with all the spices in there, then dunked the poor guy in and boil for about 10~20 minutes depending on the size of the critter. It comes out perfect but they do bang around a bit and scream.

from James Hook Co.:

How To Care For Your Lobsters

Refrigerate the lobsters when they arrive, either in the crisper or loosely on the shelf. Cook the lobsters even if they appear motionless. After cooking, the tail should curl up under the body and the meat should be firm. Eat the lobsters as soon as possible, the fresher the better.
Do not put the lobsters in the bathtub or sink with tap water. They will drown in fresh water.

Lobster Cooking Instructions

1. Boil water in a large pot.
2. Add sea salt seasoning.
3. Place live lobsters in pot.
4. When water begins to boil again, cover and cook according to weight chart.
5. Melt some butter for dipping and enjoy!

Cooking Chart

1 - 1.5 lbs 10-12 mins
1.5 - 2.0 lbs 13-14 mins
2 - 3 lbs 16- 18 mins
3 - 4 lbs 20 -22 mins
4 - 6 lbs 23 - 25 mins
7 - 10 lbs 30 - 35 mins
10 - 15 lbs 40 - 45 mins

Steamer Cooking Instructions

1. Rinse steamers carefully in cold water.
2. Put 1 inch of fresh water into a large pot.
3. Place steamers in pot and cover with lid.
4. Boil on high heat until the shells fully open.
5. Melt some butter for dipping and enjoy!

The last one I did on the grill and it was delicious. I just banked the coals on one side and put the critters on the other side and cooked with a more indirect heat. After about 5 minutes I flipped it and moved it closer to the coals. So good.

You did well to remember Falling Down :)

It was a memorable role for Michael Douglas. It was such a departure from real life for him. He is the personification of Hollywood 'cool', and he really nailed the nerd role pretty well. Overall, though, the movie was pretty forgettable. That's why I had to look up the title. :o:o

I've never been to 5 Guys. I wanna try it just once, but I don't expect it to be the best burger I've ever had. They are not the best burgers ever but for fast food burgers that are pretty good probably a notch or two above In/Out doubledouble. They do have really good fries though. But like any place, it's all in who runs the shop. The one by our house is new and the crew is really bustin' a$$ and they put out a great burger. I've heard others have had not as good experiences.

Sort of like my experience with Smashburger. I heard so many ranting on what a great burger they make so we stopped. It was horrible, a step above White castle and maybe better than McDonalds, but Wendy's does a better burget. They are low on my list.

I've never understood people's fascination for certain fast food restaurants. When In-N-Out first came here, San Diegans nearly wet themselves over the first one to open. When I finally went there, it was just another fast food burger. No big whoop... Same thing when they opened a Five Guys in the food court at the Navy Exchange. Big long lines for just another burger...

The only place around here I've found that serves burgers that are out of the ordinary is Hodads (http://hodadies.com/home/) in Ocean Beach. And the big problem there is that the parking is atrocious...

I don't care for fries. At all. Unless, maybe, they're smothered in cheese and chili. I'll get them that way when I go to Tommy's. Otherwise, I always order onion rings, instead.

And, I've never understood why so many people think In 'n' Out is the bees knees. Not long ago the Las Vegas Advisor web site ran a poll asking their viewers what was the best place to go for a burger in Las Vegas. It was NOT limited to only fast food places, but the winner, by a landslide, was In 'n' Out. That dumbfounded me! Sure, it's better than McDonalds or Burger King, but the best in all of Las Vegas?!? When it comes to fast food joints, I'd go to Tommy's first before In 'n' Out. I think I'd even consider Jack In The Box's Sirloin Burger better. And, that's not even getting into all of the myriad of other Las Vegas restaurants that have burgers on the menu...

We have lots of mom and pop type restaurants that have really good burgers but i don't classify those as fast food burgers. I love a good burger and there are a few places we will frequent when we want a decent burger, but those are more sit down places. 5guys here makes a really decent fast food burger, phone it in, send the kid to pick it up and your done.
