Im having a bit of trouble trying to think of a name for my business im planning on starting up.
The name would be on everything, Website, Cards, letters etc
My full name is Ruairidh Macdonald
'Ruairidh Macdonald Photography' i think would be too long a name and as their is a load of different spelling for my name it might be hard for people to find me without the correct spelling.
I had thought about 'RMD Photography' - perfect, roles of the tongue, easy to remember. BUT it is already taken by someone in Grapevine - Texas? i think.
Now their is the option of the same name but with .co.uk at the end. I dont want to annoy anyone or him by using the same name but changing the end. What is the usual practise with something like this?
Another thing i could possibly use is my home town/Village,
i live in a place called 'Solas' which is Scottish Gaelic and it means 'Light'
i could have 'Dealabhan Solas' which would mean 'Picture Light' or 'Light Picture'
I am unsure though about having my name in my native language as once again i think it could be a hassle with spellings as i plan on expanding my business sometime down the line and in a few years this language will possibly be no more. The majority of Gaelic speakers are in the highlands of Scotland, so alot of Scottish people further south do not speak it.
At the moment i am doing weddings and Portraits as there is not much else because of where i live.
I would ultimately like to be a Freelance/Music photographer, a name/logo that would work well now and later would be what i am after.
