After visiting a favorite birding spot and heading to another favorite spot, I spotted this flying to the side of a major road. I u-turned and pulled off on the shoulder and snapped these off. This eagle circled for a minute or two, seemingly wanting to get its picture taken. I was thrilled! I rarely see them that low, and have never watched one circle for that long. I only wish the sun was in front of it and behind it, then I would have really been thrilled. The first shot is not a crop, both taken with the 400mm f5.6 and Tamron 1.4 TC.

Considering the conditions under which you shot, these are great captures.

Very nice. I like the light filtering through the tail featheres in the first one.

Great shots, I'd be pleased also. Always love seeing the large raptors but your lucky to have seen them that low/close. Wonderful.

My father lives in an area with several Bald Eagles. He has a deck built out over a mid sized river and the Eagles fly down fairly low looking for fish quite often.

i was planning on taking my camera out there to try and get a few shots sometime.

Thanks everyone, there will be more to come as this is a raptor I see quite often. I always look forward to Winter for raptors and other wintering birds.

Thanks again everyone! Richardmincher- it was probably flying less than 50', maybe 30 or 40' up. Hard to judge, but lower than normal.
