I can't physically do weddings. It's why I'm going to do my best to create some stock imagery here and there and hope for some microstock sales. :(

OoooooOOOooooh. I've never done that before.

I have a chronic illness and end up with more sick than well days. It isn't fair for me to agree to any kind of scheduled deadline because I can't be sure I would meet it. I also usually can't do the kind of physical activity required for doing a wedding - that's an all day thing.

I'll have to get really creative about that - I don't travel well.

I was hoping to get a macro lens this month but hubby asked me to wait a few more... I'm hoping it's because he wants to just finish out my wish list in one fell swoop when the money we're expecting is available. I knew that macro would open up all sorts of new things to look at for sure...

Mostly. I booked 116 weddings last year, so there was a time I had an assistant. I also book out other photographers once I'm booked, so that accounts for about 28% of my sales and about 18% of my net income. Why so many weddings?

I know several wedding photographers / videographers and they would never consider booking even half that amount. You would never have sufficient time to edit pictures, it just seems like everything would be rushed...

No - I'm sticking with my 7D until I can afford to add a 5D Mk III... then probably keeping the 7D a bit after that until they come up with something better on crop and I've saved enough to upgrade that body if I need to, depending on how stock requirements fluctuate. As more MP are available they raise their file sizes to match the newer bodies. :(

Thanks. Part of it is that I want my images to stay more - to really make people stop... see things differently, etc. I think part of it is that I've seen the same thing so much ... right now it's hard for me to see it in a different light. Not sure.

album cover. i like the sound of that. good job. if he's that happy then work well done :)

I let him use my Alvarez acoustic as a prop (he doesn't have acoustics at the moment and acoustic makes more sense for some of what we were doing). He loved my guitar and ended up jamming on it and teaching my son bass (and now my son owns his very own bass guitar - we traded in the Yamaha he lost interest in). Tried some high tone stuff in the church basement (only place I could find that I could put up the background holders!), etc., and some stuff on a real abandoned railroad (the bridge had been torn out - sadly I realized when I got there I should have visited earlier and hit it with a rake so the rails were more visible).

His big thing - his pictures are unique and show who he is and what is important to him. There aren't canned backdrops and the same poses all the other students had. I know he's wrong - but he's acting like I'm a genius... that part felt really good.

I get requiring some of it, but some of it is unnecessary and a bit absurd. Especially since they only give you 48 hours to complete the application after submitting your resume or you are no longer considered for the position (and they don't tell you what's required in the application before hand).

A few other applications I've dealt with got into quite a few specifics as well, but this is the most ridiculous I've seen yet.

I think part of it is that people are getting a lot more "creative" in job applications and HR departments are tired of wading through what looks like good applicants on paper, only to discover later that things were exaggerated, etc., after the interview. People who can't get things turned around fast enough aren't motivated enough and an instant wash. Just another way to sort out the applicant pool. :(

Yup... they'll understand that. If you're a younger person (like you are) they know that many don't have the multiple years they are requesting. Fill it out as completely as possible. In cases where the place is now closed, list who your supervisor was, what the number was, and say after the company name "now closed" or something similar. They'll just shrug and move on nine times out of ten. If they're pulling your credit bureau reports they'll see your employment listed too. If it matches they definitely aren't going to be too worried about the fact you've listed a closed business.

So scary - it used to be three references (preferably former employers), no big job gaps and demonstrated ability were enough to make you considered a possible job candidate. The corporations know they own us... it's a new version of slavery...

yes you can sell prints off of your Zen site...but I don't think I have that option since I only got the unlimited package. you need to get the Premium or Premimum Business package to be able to sell.

does your 1Ds have the spot metering on AF points feature? I mean when you choose an AF point it meters from there too?

I am not sure how the face detection works, its probably an improved version of the 3D AF tracking of the D3s/D700... or something like that.

Yup. My 1Ds III can do that. I'm surprised the 5D III doesn't have it bcoz I like to use spot meter most of the time.

Apparently the new 1Dx has this subject tracking. You can set it to track certain subjects, such as a bride on a dance floor, so your camera only tries to focus on the bride. Or a certain player in sports, etc. I don't think the 5D3 has this feature, but the 1Dx does.
