What's really hard for my heart is Carmie wants to move in and hubby says no more house chickies. She's almost blind at this point and loves me... today she climbed on my arm and nuzzled me - you could see her saying "please take me inside and give me treats. I will be a good little hen, I promise."

i know you would never need it unless the rocks start to move  which if thats the case we have bigger problem then worrying about camera speed

If he's an action shooter, the 5D III isn't fast enough to begin with. The 1D X with it's buffering is clearly the choice.

I hate pictures I take... nothing inspires me. If my photography were a novel I'd be debating between going back and editing what I have while hoping something percolates or putting it in a drawer for a while and finding a different creative pursuit. Also, I had planned on following Canon because it was where I started and logic suggests that they want to maintain market share, and as such, will continue to innovate and improve. Right now it looks like I was being a bit naive.

The gear helps a bit but shooting what inspires you matters even more. Remember as new techniques come around and you begin to expand your knowledge it is natural to go back and think about reediting. Why? Because you continue to grow in your creativity. Where i am today is vastly different than when i started. I too have gone to reedit and apply new techniques i have picked up along the way. We are always students in my book.

The many things that inspire me to shoot:

That is a tough category i have yet to get into. Those guys produce excellent work.

if I get to choose one category I would ditch all the sunrise and sunsets and focus on G&N... but GF would chop me in pieces if she finds out...so I stay away from G&N as far as possible

I'll have to actually relish the animals dragging me out of bed...

I'm so frustrated right now I'm considering selling all my equipment off while it's new enough to not take too big of a loss on it. So... definitely need to find something to shoot happily.

At least in another month or so flowers will be going - there is a pond filled with American lotus over at the family farm (almost a half hour from where we're living). I honestly hope to get some really nice shots of that at some point. Might even be worth camping out at the lake over there to get them early in the day. :)

Lately I don't even find anything worth taking pictures of! Today - it was miserable cats:

Mostly took it for square framing - today's topic in the book group was aspect ratios.

It is cut too close to that one toe, but he looks much more unhappy in the other picture. :(

There were people at the top of the hill who were evicted from their home (or they defaulted on their mortgage; not sure which). Anyhow, when they left they just left all the animals "free." You would think they would know better - if people see strays hanging around (especially dogs) that are half wild they shoot them. If you're going to be that cruel, shoot them yourself - don't leave them to starve for weeks first just so your neighbors end up trapping them (if they're hoping to retame and rehabilitate them like we are - what a pain for us) or killing them outright because they are harassing, injuring or killing livestock. :(

Anyhow, Duchess (Football) and George we suspect both wandered down from there. There is also a skinny hound mix that has been eating our cat food, etc., that we're now trying to live trap in hopes that we might be able to tame it so it doesn't get killed (and so we don't have to kill it). :(

We really love animals here. I had a raccoon getting into and killing my chickens. She had killed several chicks and the usual response is to kill them. Well, we live trapped her to relocate her and I saw she had young she was nursing. I checked with the department of conservation for an age estimate on the kits and they were too young to survive without her, so instead of relocating her I let her go so she could go back to her young and take care of them.

Most chicken people would have killed her, looked for the nest and killed them to, or just let the young starve. When hubby tells people that story they all laugh at me. :(
