Does anyone know a good source for eyepiece upgrades? I need a diopter adjustment for my bad eyes, any suggestions?

Dave, it depends on which camera you have.

whoa, sorry about that... totally slipped my mind. Canon 10d, I know the eos eyepeice extension doesn't fit or something and they're developing a new one... but what about diopter correction?

So I am sure you are aware that there is a little dial next to the eye piece with -/+ symbol for adjusting the diopter of the 10D. I'll assume that full adjustment either way didn't solve your problem. Canon makes diopters for their various models of camera. I suggest going to a well stocked pro shop and trying the diopters from other models on your 10D one of them might fit. The other suggestion is to have your optometrist make you a diopter that suits your vision and will mount in the eye piece of the camera. It's usually kind of pricey but can make shooting without glasses much easier.

Good luck to you.

I'm looking at the 10D manual, they list the eyepiece Extender EP-EX15 for the 10D. Are you saying that piece doesn't fit?

i'm pretty sure i read somewhere on here that it doesn't and that canon will be making another specifically for the 10d. correct me if i'm wrong.

Same here,.. says in the manual it will fit,.. and in fact I got a little "Accesories" flyer in my 10D box that lists it as well?

The EP-EX15 mount is correct for the eyepiece mount on the back of the 10D. The problem is that the extender will not push fully into place because the space for eyepieces 'cut' into the back panel of the 10D is a little too narrow. I bought an EP-EX15 for my D60 (on which it fit correctly), and was mildy annoyed to discover that it would not fit properly on my 10D when I 'upgraded'. I elected to smooth off the bottom corners of the extender, which has allowed it to fit perfectly.

Whichever fool designed the back of the 10D should be ashamed of this crass mistake.

I also can confirm that the 10D does not quite fit with the EP-EX15, however at least on mine, it does not seem to cause any problems, stays on and I can see through it fine. It just doesn't quite fit as perfectly as it should. Again it does fit the D60 correctly.

Since the Eyecup Eb replacement (I lost the original for a couple weeks, so got a spare) and Angle Finder C, both fit perfectly on both cameras, it may be a minor problem with the eyepiece extender not quite being made to standard, like a smidge too large and the 10D being a smidge too small. I suspect the mold for the EP-EX15 will be fixed.

Need to get my hand dirty with the tools modifing the eyepiece for my 10D. It's real easy and took like just 5 min to finished.

Should let Canon know so that they can correct this mistake.

Any chance you can post a pic or 2 of the mod you had to do? I have 2 eyepieces in transit for my 10D's and will have to make the mods also. Thanks

The eyepiece extender for the 10D is really hard to find. I have a couple of them on order at various places.

Somewhere I read that the lack of availability was because Canon was making a design change. That might just be speculation, but I've been waiting almost a month. I did see a couple of them on eBay, but they were getting just about double MSRP, and my cheap side precludes me from paying that much for something I'm not yet positive I need or can use.

I got this eye piece a month or so ago at my local camera shop. I got to tell you though, I don't use it. It's got a 0.5x magnification on it that I don't like. Maybe that's what the redesign your talking about is for.

It kept looking through it trying to figure out why it felt so different, it wasn't until yesterday I say the piece of paper that came with it that said it had the 0.5x magnification.
