I've already mentioned this in the G3 forum not realising that there was a separate place - sorry if this is a duplicate!
www.fotopic.net will let you store 250Mb of photos free - it's really good.

I registered with them. I was using photo.net, but I wasn't really happy with their setup.
fotopic.net also allows direct linking to photos from forums such as this one, but I haven't been able to figure out the URL to use in the image tags. Has anyone linked to their own images in fotopic? What URL do you use?? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with the site, but thought I'd toss this out:
Once you have uploaded the image, right click it and go to properties. You will see a URL there. Copy *that* URL into your post.

Thanks Shejobe...
I figured it out anyway...they have a strange file system there and it took some time but I got it.

Here is how you do it. Go to your photopic gallerie (not the maintanance site,. but the actual gallery)
click on a pic,.. it will come up in an html frame,.. now at the lower right hand side click on the "Full size" link.
Now the image will be dispayed as a pure jpeg,.. no HTML page or frame.
That is the address you need to paste into your forum post.
Do you know the phpp coding to paste an image?
{img}paste address of your image here{/img}
replace { } brackets with [ ] brackets and you are all set.
The downside is that you can only link to your actual image,.. at its full size. This is part of why I don't upload original full size images. I use only about 1200 X 890 maximum.

Thanks Cyber...
It took a while to figure out there system, but I finally got it. It was strange that they don't store the images in the member directory. It looks like everyones' images are stored at images.fotopic.net (instead of yourname.fotopic.net)
Still... you can't beat the generous space and the fact that they freely allow direct linking to images.

I have no idea how long this free ride can last....
I'm almost thinking to myself that I SHOULDN'T tell anyone about fotopic for fear they will over extend themselves :D

The amount of space they're giving you is nothing for the potential amount that they can make out of them - there are a couple of clauses that you've agreed to that will make me very wary of what I use fotopic for - one in particular is:
With respect to all other Content you elect to post to other publicly accessible areas of the Service, you grant Fotopic the royalty-free, irrevocable, non-exclusive and fully sub- licensable right and licence to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform and display such Content (in whole or part) worldwide and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed, in the course of providing and promoting the Service.
Sorry, that just concerns me - especially the sub-licensable... they can 'promote' their service by licencing YOUR image and not paying you a red cent - let's say they want to publish a book with images from Fotopic... let's say they use the images uploaded to fotopic as one huge stock library, that they don't have to pay ANY FEES or ROYALTIES to the authors of the images... hey, but they're nice guys, right, they wouldn't do that, would they?? There are huge dollars in stock photography and stock libraries, and they could sell the whole site off to someone who WOULD...
Read the fine print in the agreements you make with some of these places... :-)
Cheers,
Stuart

I actually DID read that,..
But you are correct that it is ominous!
It is not that I think they are nice guys,. it is only that I don't really mind. I'm not a pro and don't expect to make money from my pics ever.
I know this seems like alien and shortsited thinking,. but really if someone decides to put my pictures in a clip art album,. I might be flattered!
It also does NOT preclude ME form selling the pics that I have uploaded to there site.
But that is just me....
Therefore,. your point is well taken,. and in the Future when I recomend this site I will point out the downside in my post. It is obviously something that is of great concern,. and anyone using fotopic should be aware of the implications.
So folks,.. READ THE LICENSE AGREEMENT! :)
