I am having an impossible time downloading images from a new powershot s400 camera to my laptop PC. Although the camera ("canon camera") is recognized initially when I plug it into my USB port, when I try to download, either using Zoombrowser (most up to date version) or Microsoft picture it, it looks for my camera briefly and give me a message that no camera is connected. What seems to happen is that the software request to communicate with the camera shuts the camera off at the same time the error message appears. Have tried both USB ports and same problem occurs.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing software, and also have updated my version of win2K pro and canon software, but the same thing keeps happening. I have deleted the canon camera in hardware configuration, and it has reinstalled when I plug the camera in and it is on. I have also done a complete uninistall and reinstall of software and drivers several.

The only possible clue is that while the canon camera appears in my hardware configuration when it is plugged in and turned on, there is no scanner or camera icon in the control panel.

Can anyone help me with this?

P.S. The camera and software work fine with my win98 desktop pc.

O-kay,..

I can't actually help with your specific problem,. (getting your camera and PC to talk to eachother) but I can offer an alternative solution that will be an overall imrovement to your CF to Notebook pc transfers.

http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=CF-PCMCIA

This adapter is only $9.00 and will be much faster and far more conveient than plugging your camera in. (in fact it is as fast as any Card reader available) No drivers are neccesary as long as your notebook has a PCMCIA slot. I leave the adapter in my notebook,. nothing extra to carry.
