Punting is now big business - purists regretting the arrival of the wide version in the background that can pack more paying "punters" in.

A good excuse to "doodle"

At last I was taken on a walking tour of the colleges in Cambridge - having shopped (when I have to) here for over 30 years!

Good point Rick...it depends on the bolts.

The design is very clever...all the main components are acting in compression and as long as the fastenings, and the wood around them of course, are sound, then it should be remarkably strong. In a way, it's a very "honest" construction, as all the components are easily inspected, whereas some bridges that look a lot stronger have their reinforcing structure buried out of sight.

Nice pic and PP BTW!

The geometric bridge is thought to be self supporting but has bolts - I did check before crossing! It has been replaced a few times over the years.
