Hi, am new to both this forum and digital photography so apologies if this is in the wrong place. Have an IXUS 400 and when I use a PCMCIA compact flash adapter to play movie files I get a jumpy picture and crackly audio when I record short movies. If I copy the files over to the hard drive they are ok. I'm using a Compaq laptop (2Ghz) and windows XP pro.....could it be the drivers causing this? Would appreciate any help/advice.Thanks.

Using a CF card for direct access is not really fast (as far as I know 1 megabit per second). If you want to know the difference in performance copy a avi-file form your cf-card to your harddisk and compare that with copying it form one folder to another. 1 Megabit per second is about 60 kB and that's about as fast as a DSL connection on the net.

Cheers Peter.........that makes sense and explains why I get those problems. Looking around and speaking with other users most just seem to copy to hard disk then view/edit etc from there.

Yes definately do all your veiwing and editing AFTER the transfer to your hard drive. Your Hard drive can read back those files 20-50 times faster than the CF card can! :)
