From last weekend, hoped the weather would be nice but, what do you know, this is Scotland, bad the whole weekend.
Two days in the Highlands and,,,bad clouds.
Anyway,i managed to come back with some shots and some of them with a cloudy and dramatic sky.
Taken with 1d mkII N and Tokina 12-24 with nd grad cokin.
Enjoy them and hit me with CC.

I love the first one. The fog on top and the long foreground of the water are nicely balanced for me. Seeing the rocks through the water adds keen deatail. The muted colors set a peaceful mood. Thanks for sharing.

Thats the colours we get during winter months, the grass on the mountains turns red which as you said gives a peaceful but cold looking mood.

That's great work Dimitri.
The first shot in particular is ecxellent.
You have a nice composition, the colours and reflection are beautiful and exposure is great too.
The eye is led all the way through the shot to the head of the loch and mountains behind.
By way of C&C, I would be tempted to crop out a bit of sky and clone out the rock in the centre. Being in the centre foreground it breaks the continuity of the shot.
BTW where did you shoot this?
The hills in the background remind me a trip I made to Loch Etive this summer.

As Cameron says - great work and I'll also echo his suggestion of the centre rock and the sky - the foreground interest of pebbles in water are wonderful - good shooting a really atmospheric shot.
Cheers

Hmm,i`m thinking about what you said , good advice , thank you.

Remember the shots you had of the small waterfalls along the river at Glen Etive?
If you go a bit fearther down the road towards Loch Etive you will see this small loch on your left handside down the glen.
If you park at the layby directly above the loch, their is a small path (you have to look for it) that leads you to the one side of the loch (where i took the shots from).
Be carefull , if you miss the path , the terrain there is realy bad and a bit deep at places (experience LOL).

Cropping the top is an improvement, but I liked the rock in the center. The way it poked out of the water like a small mountain was pleasing. My 2 cents.

In opinion it's much better Dimitri the rock doesn't distract my view of the reflections from the background hills and allows my eye to travel through the image un-heeded.
Once again, great shooting and a nice job done in PS:D

Yeh, what David said.
IMO this improves what was already a great shot. I now have a clear, uninterrupted view all the way to Stob na Broige at the southern end of the Buachaille ( now that you've clued me in on the location :) )
Or, at least, I think thats the view. :?
I do remember that small loch now, Dimitri.
On my way back from Loch Etive I thought about a detour down.
I'm sorry I didn't now.
Well done.
An impressive shot.
Meant to ask earlier.
Are you using Cokin P filters ?
If so, how do you find them with the 1DMKII and the Tokina 12-24 ?
I know I had a problem at 17mm on the 17-40.

I`m using cokin but i`m thinking of switching to Lee because...
a. they are abit bigger
b. they are totally neutral (cokin are grey not neutral)
With cokin i can use them on the tokina from 17mm but if you don`t need all 3 slots for the filters and you can do with 2 , you can cut off the 3rd slot and that brings you down to 15mm (so i`ve heard).
If you want my advice though (after a resurch) go for the Lee.

I already have, Dimitri, for the very reasons you give.
They are expensive but what isn't in this game. :?

As you said (and know) Cameron , if you want the best you have to pay for it.
Tell me something else, when you were saying that you can`t use the 17-40 @ 17 did you mean with the lee? and with how many slots attached?

No, my problem was with the Cokin P filters not being big enough when I bought the 1DMKII. The filter holder was in the frame at 17mm even more so if I also used a CP filter.
No problems now. I can recommend Lee but only as far as 17mm :) I have nothing wider.

Phew, thank god for that because i was thinking about the 17-40.
I expect the lee to go as far down as 14 with the N and tokina, lee is quite wider that cokin.
Thanks for the info Cameron.
