The definition, as I understand, is that a "Pro" (short for professional) in photography is one who makes the bulk of his/her income from photography. I see the word being used loosely often and must admit it can be confussion. What say you readers?

Personally, I believe it means simply "someone who makes their living from photography" and that is it. The term implies nothing else to me. I certainly don't believe the term has any bearing on the photographers ability, some "amateurs" produce stunning work, some "pros" produce absolute rubbish and vice versa.

From dictionary.com
1.
1. Of, relating to, engaged in, or suitable for a profession: lawyers, doctors, and other professional people.
2. Conforming to the standards of a profession: professional behavior.
2. Engaging in a given activity as a source of livelihood or as a career: a professional writer.
3. Performed by persons receiving pay: professional football.
4. Having or showing great skill; expert: a professional repair job.
That pretty much matches what I think. It could mean you make the bulk of your income from photography. It could mean you make some income from it. It could mean you're especially skilled. I make a little money from photography, I call myself semi-pro, my customers seem to refer to me me a professional though.

This question comes up a dozen times a year and the answers are always the same - different!

I became a pro back in April by spending $6.25 at the local probate office and purchasing a business license. At least that's how the judging rules for our state fair's photography competition ruled. So, I didn't enter anything. :D

I call myself semi-pro
I think that is appropate in your case. I refer to myself as "devoted" or "advanced" amateur.
