Gyah! After spending nearly 200 bucks on a 420EX i realized that I can't even mount this off camera without dropping another 40-50 bucks on an off camera shoe cord!
Has anyone found a cheap way around this problem? I'm quite frustrated.
thanks,

You could always buy a Canon ST-E2 transmitter for operating the flash off the camera (say mounted on a light stand to fire in an umbrella), but it will cost you $170-180. I know, it's even more money but a lot more flexible than the off shoe cord if you want to do studio work.
Canon gets a healthy mark-up for their parts. Even worse is the battery grip---$180 for a piece of platic that holds to batteries!!!
