24 - 70mm 2.8 Lens

I just received the 24 - 70 mm lens for my 10D. When I use the flash that comes with the 10D I get a dark shadow in the forground of the photo. When I use my 550 the shadow does not appear. The dealer told me the lens is to wide which does make sensel Canon said there may be a problem with the lens. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hiya.
I have the same lens. I believe it's the physical size of the lens blocking the flash casting a shadow into the image . I think you can use the in camera flash at 70mm without the hood. I hope this helps.
