Hi all,
I've just moved from Brisbane, Australia to UK, London and I've been trying to find a decent photography store. I've decided to splurge and purchase a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 Lens with lens hood and case. I could get one from eBay for around 800-820 pounds but would rather buy locally if possible. Does anyone know of any good photography stores in the London area that would be able to match the price that I'm willing to spend for the lens?
Thanks in advance,
Brad.

Buy a copy of Amateur Photographer & look through the adverts, compare prices & look up their addresses & phone numbers, or buy mail order next day delivery, also look up microglobe.co.uk they are usually good on lens pricing & are London based.

Around the Tottenham Court Road area is your best bet. There are a few stores on New Oxford Street (towards Holborn) - Jacobs and Jessops. Not sure if they price match with the internet, different Jessop stores seem to have different policies and Jacobs I have never tried. Also quite a few stores along Tottenham Court Road up towards Warren Street. A lot of them are general electronics stores and the staff wouldn't have a clue about the lenses they are selling but if you go further up Tottenham Court Road you will see some smaller dedicated camera stores. Also check out Camera World in Wells Street http://www.cameraworld.co.uk/ . Not sure what they're like in terms of price matching though.

I've just moved from Brisbane, Australia to UK, London ...
Please can I replace you in Brisbane?
As to the 24-70 2.8 well Kerso (search for his name in the Marketplace section) or www.onestop-digital.com will get you a better price. Problem is you can't take it back to the shop if you don't like it or it's faulty. Calumnet around the back of Euston will help with Canon gear but don't expect discount prices. Otherwise, as everyone else said ...

Thanks for the help guys!
nation: I've already been to Camera World in Wells street just down the road from Oxford Circus. Not a bad shop but not that competitive when it comes to prices.
condyk: No you can't replace me in Brisbane! Nice try though.

Well I finally bit the bullet and today I purchased a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L lens. In the end I purchased it from Calumnet on Drummond Street for about £890. I know I paid too much! The service at Calumnet was excellent, professional staff who know what they're selling. Made me feel a bit better about spending a little more than I hoped to.
I haven't used the lens as of yet. I'm waiting for the weather here in London fine up ...lol
I hope for the price I paid that it will be far superior than the Canon 28-80mm non USM lens I've been using for the past 6 years.
Thanks again to everyone that replied. :)
