I am new here. My ex-girlfriend got me into taking nude photos of her and myself. We posted some on a nude photo web site and it was nice to see the comments I got but the site is more of a porn site which is ok sometimes but I like to do artistic photos also but I am not great at it. I would like some input but I don’t want to just post for all to see. Is there anyone who takes self photos who can give me some suggestions? I would be happy to share some photos and I am up for suggestions on what other photos I can do.

I would have posted in glamour and nude but I am too new here and I cannot post there.

I am in good shape so I am not shy to show my body but I want to know how I can do it better.

Thanks for the help

I can see how it might be difficult to give advise without seeing what I have done. I am happy to share with someone who has experience with this by sending the photos. I am looking for ideas from those who do this already. I could use some suggestions for location, lighting, pose, etc.

It would be nice if I could post this where it needs to go. Maybe someone with access to the glamor and nude forum can direct people over to here.

The moderators know about this thread and have been watching it. Because of past problems in the Glamour forum we have very strict rules about getting access to it. The short version is that you must have at least 1000 posts and have been a member for at least 3 months. Read http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=92051

Have you posted anything on other sites, like maybe PhotoSIG? Do you have a web site?

I have albums of photos online but I don't share them all with the public. I am nor a pro at this and I am trying to learn how to take better photos of nude subjects and I want to learn to pose better myself. Maybe this is not the right place to get that advise. I am not sure since I am new here.

I did read the guidelines and I will not be able to post for a long time with those requirements. Thanks for the reply.

Why not sign up for the free trial from Pbase and make your username something random. I also believe Pbase allows you to password protect your galleries (though I don't know about on the free trial) so you could assign a password and then post the url and pw here, or just the URL and PM the password to those willing to give you advice.

There are plenty of free webspace options out there, you should be able to find something that will allow you to host photos to get feedback.

Thanks but my problem is not sharing the photos. I have the photos in albums now that I can give access to people. I just need to find someone who has some advice to give and has experience with this. Once I find someone I will share my photos with them and get feedback. Even if I were to post some here they don’t belong in this forum since they are nude.

If it was me, I would ask a mod to move this topic to the people section and see if you can find someone there who can give you advice. I, however would not limit myself to those experienced with doing self nudes, I would look for advice from people with portrait experience.

I hate to say it, but in the end, it's just a penis so it shouldn't be that much different from other full length portraiture. If you want excellent examples of posing look at work by CharlesU and JAF Doorhof (there are others who do excellent work, those are the two I remember off the top of my head) in the Glamour & Nude section and read the studio section for lighting ideas.

The fundementals of lighting and posing should be the same, and it seems to me that you're shooting yourself in the foot by wanting feedback only from those who have done self nudes.

If I misunderstood you, my apologies :)

My thought exactly.

Calisurfer, take some time to learn about lighting, etc.. and practice. I've done my share of fine art photography (including some nudes, no self nudes though)
Lighting Lighting Lighting! Master it. Won't come easy, and if you're looking for quick and easy advice on making art, then you're wasting your time.

My advice is to post some Glamour (seminude) photos in the people section , it will get moved to glamour section and they should give you access. They did say that exceptions are possible if you have something to contribute.

My advice would be don't even think about trying this. It's more likely to get the thread deleted. If you're lucky, posting nudes in a nominally G-PG forum won't get you banned. The rules are there for a reason, whatever it may seem like to the outside observer. There were problems with new people coming in and making "inappropriate" posts (pictures, comments, or both) in G&N. So we want to keep it to known quantities.

Just e-mail the photos to a mod. Most of them are very experienced photographers with helpful insight into the things you need advice on.

Another query...could he, pending review of the photos by a mod, get a "trial" access to G&N? Possibly let him, after that, make a single post, see how it goes, and if all is well, grant him full access?

I assume that's what would be done anyway.

I agree with learning lighting techniques. That's what a lot of it is about. Look in magazines for inspiration when it comes to poses. Look at glamour and nude work of others. Use your own imagination. Decide what you want to show/not show. Hos sexual do you want the photos? etc

Don't send unsolicited photos, especially of this nature, to anyone. As I said, there are reasons, based on bitter experience, for the G&N restrictions we currently have. We aren't about to bend them without an outstanding reason (like Peter Gowland joining the forum!).

If you're intrested in nudes, you can still practice and get advice without the glamour forum.

Just wear some trousers and try to get the lighting right. I'm sure most people would be able to extrapolate and give advice as if you were naked if you explain the situation.

And don't put pictures of yourself on the net for general access.
