I have been using Photoshop Elements for about 6 months. I recently picked up Photoshop 7. What is a good book for a semi-newbie for learning this program?

It may not really teach you all there is to learn about Photoshop 7 but it does have a lot of tips, with good examples, on how to use Photoshop 7 to get you started. It's called "The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers" by Sott Kelby. I got mine from Amazon.com and it's highly rated there.

I totally agree with PacAce. The Scott Kelby is the best book I've read on photoshop. I am a teacher and very aware of how to present information to students. Most photoshop books are not user friendly. Scott uses a lot of graphics along with information in a two column book. He has a great presentaion and a great sense of humor. Buy it and you will get a book worth far more than the cover value.

Thanks, I am going to order The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers today. Are there any others I should consider?

If you are in the UK, or can get hold of a copy where you are, then look at 'Adobe Photoshop 7 For Photographers', by Martin Evening, published by Focal Press.
It is as it says, biased towards photographers and not graphics artists.

You can quickly become book-poor with PhotoShop materials. There are probably more books on PhotoShop than any other piece of software on the planet. Its capabilities seem to be endless. Don't try to learn it in day/week/month/year. You will probably never learn all of its capabilities, and I doubt you need them.

The digi-photo book is good though. I do have that one. And (not being rude here) PhotoShop for Dummies is a great beginner book. Start there and work slowly. Heck, those two books will probably keep you busy for 6 months! ;)

I also have Scott Kelby's book and highly recommend it.

For those things not covered in Kelby's book I use Adobe Photoshop by David Blatner and Bruce Fraser, which I also recommend.
