:(

As you may recall my a620 was due to arrive tomorrow; well it arrived today and I was excited to test it out. Unfortunately I put in the batteries, and then the SD card and when I powered it up I got the well known 'E18' error... right out of the box! I was really disappointed. I bought it through Dell and had to jump through hoops all day before they agreed to replace it. They originally wanted me to return it to Canon, but I told them that was unacceptable as it was DOA and I didn't want to begin the waiting game with Canon repairing it, etc. Dell was pretty good about the whole thing; barring some language barriers and misunderstandings about what the error code meant, they finally agreed to send out a replacement unit and a return label for the defective camera.

I had second thoughts about taking a replacement and just jumping to DSLR, but I'm giving Canon a second chance... I'm not to warm and fuzzy about this apparent defect in the p&s lines and I'm hoping the camera will last for at least a couple years....

So anyway, I'm bummin' but looking forward to an operable unit.

and a big thumbs up to Dell, by the way. According to the tracking records they provided, they are sending a replacement camera 'Next Day' with it due to arrive tomorrow which is when I was expecting the camera anyway. No harm, no foul if the replacement works properly.

People have frowned upon Dell, buy I have always been taken care of.

sorry to hear yours came busted. I got mine from newegg.com a couple weeks ago and it has performed flawlessly. I even took it sledding this past weekend and accidently dragged it on and the lense out in the chunky snow a couple times, while going down the hill. Thing still works great.

This is kinda off topic. But talking about Dell, I like their customer supports. Sounds weird for some people but... A week and a half ago, my friend bought a laptop and as in their website, they said that delivery will be Dec 6 - Dec 9. That's long. So I called them and asked if they can speed up the process. They agreed and I have Next day shipping without any extra charge. The laptop came last Wednesday which is about 2 weeks before the old delivery date.

My a610 just shipped from Dell and should get here in a couple days. Hopefully, I have better luck. I was going to get mine from Newegg (you can't go wrong with them) but Dell was $36 cheaper - with some creative use of their coupons.

Beachcamera was the cheapest on the A610, according to my research. I upgraded to the executive package that comes with the camera (at $248 ), a 512MB SD card, a carrying bag, and a lens cleaning kit for $302.99 (no tax and free shipping). That's less than I probably would've otherwise spent on just the camera and shipping anywhere else. I still intend to get some more rechargeable batteries and a tripod from Walmart.

</randomness> :-P

Good News! Dell came through with the 'Next Day' shipping and I had my new camera in less than 16 hours... not too shabby. I'm happy to report that the replacement a620 is working perfectly and I am really excited about putting it to the test.

Will post some pics after the weekend...

I hope that my A610 will be in good order. It should arrive tommorow. I ordered it from newegg, they offered an amazing deal, but it lasted for only one day before it was sold out. The deal was 259$ for a canon a610 and a 1gb sd card. This was 1 week ago. Now only the camera is 269$.

Yeah, I missed out on the free memory deal at Newegg. I got my a610 from Dell for less than $220 but I just bought a RiData 1GB 66X SD card for $60. Here's the thread that discusses the deal.
