Well I’m in the process of deciding where to pick up my camera from and I think I will end up going with best buy, and getting there $100 service agreement. It covers everything I need it to for 4 years, vs. spending 500 dollars at Ritz camera for a 5 year plan. Best Buy also said they may be able to price match so I may be getting a few dollars off as well.

I was just curious how many of you guys/gals have plans on your cameras.

The best advice on the service plan is to get everything in writing, very detailed. Even from the big box stores. If they say annual cleaning, get it in writing detailing what and when and any applicable charges (shipping etc) shown.

There have been several threads here detailing issues with plans from the box stores.

Beware of misleading statements and carefully investigate the charges. Apparently a common problem.

Do some research.

Check with your credit card company, most provided extended warranty, usually double, on manufacturer warranties if their card is used for the purchase. I don't advocate carrying the balance, but paying it off is always the option without endangering the extended warranty.

You gotta be careful out there!!

I read the plan ... the only thing it doesn't cover is accidental damage ... but at the same time wear and tear from normal use is covered. I spoke to a sales rep at Best Buy and a camera falling while mounted to a tripod and things of that nature are covered, but abuse to the camera is not. I think I will be picking it up at Best Buy and purchasing the protection plan as well. They are matching Ritz Cameras online promotion of no tax so it'll be about $80 cheaper.
