The smell of oil and spices wafted out as this cook opens the door to take a break. Lower East Side, Manhattan.

He looks more like a nightclub bouncer. I like the shot. The bike is his friend.

Good work, BB.
The folk art is amazing, the Met material! The "pogy" cook looks at ease with the time zone drama being played on the wall of his diner. To him that's probably nothing compared to the interior of his kitchen.....which I imagine as a scene set from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie.
The image gives the term "Big Apple" in invigoratingly new meaning.
What lens did you use to shoot the photo ? Seems a bit on the soft side although that may not be neccessarily bad in this case.

Love the wall art. The cook is a nice touch..... it adds a thread of story to the background.

Thanks Sol! Looking at the wall, it was hard to tell the time. I took this picture in mid-afternoon.

Aye, he does look quite hefty. I wouldn't want to get on his bad side. Thanks!

He does look like he did something mean inside. :) I like the wall art too, and I suspect this would be a place Salvador Dali would like to eat in, after he melts all those clocks.
I took it with my trusty G6 - without the WA attachment this time, hence the absence of barelling :) I take this camera with me all the time, especially when biking around the city, which I was doing when I took this shot.

Thanks Maureen! It was the door opening and the cook going out that completed the picture for me. I'm glad you felt the same way too.

Thanks Tlee. Too bad I blew the highlights on his shirt, it had more spots on it. Oh well, it's street photography after all. Yup, he did see me, I smiled, waved, and pedalled on - no time for another shot.

Thanks Sinjin, and welcome to the forums!

I really like this shot... the colors the cook all together...
As others have mentioned about the cook, to me it's almost like you would hear him saying to himself any of the following:"
"You talkin' to me?" or "What do you want?" "Why is this guy takin' a shot back here..?" or "Thank god, we got those rats out of the kitchen before the health inspector arrived".

Dwight, cwescape, thanks for looking. He does have a bit of a scowl, but he smiled after I waved to him as I pedalled away.

Nothing much not to like about this picture. Even the chain link fence, which gets in the way some but is out of your control has the happy circumstance of its post top being pointed to by the clock hand! Great color, great eye. I wonder if they can cook a properly timed two minute egg!

Thanks for viewing all! Perhaps the owner has a fascination for timepieces. I'll try to grab a bite there and see how the eggs are.

Great shot! Being a kitchen guy myself, I can relate.
He looks like he's wishin' it was time to go home. :)
