Yesterday the shutter buton on my A85 decided to break. It stuck in the '1/2 push' position and thus, whilst I can take photos, I cannot zoom in or out, nor select any menu items etc etc... I took it to the shop I bought it from and got such a 'couldnt give a sh*t' attitude form the moron who 'assisted' me I actually went to the main store in the chain to see the manager/owner. He wasn't in today, but the assistant gave me the address of the canon center in Brisbane (my town) and suggested I take it directly to them. He did say that they may honour the warranty (which only ran out 10 days ago) BUT it wold take them until January to get the camera fixed and back to me.

This was very bad news as my lady and I have just had our first baby and so we NEED a camera for christmas for obvious reasons. I'd probably have biten the bullet and bought a new one due to me having also purchased a lot of accessories for the A85 (UW housing, and a couple of lenses and filters). So it wasnt just the camera that would hace to be replaced.

I arrived at Canon at 4.45pm this arvo and frankly expected the worst. I explained the siotuation re: the baby and Karen at the service desk said... "hang on a sec" and went out the back.... she returned promptly with ..... A LOANER A85 FOR ME UNTIL MINE WAS FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE!!!

And so I'd just like to post this little message on this board (plus a couple of other forums I belong too) in appreciation for what they've done for me. If only ALL multi-nationals were as thoughtful .. especially to 'small fish' such as myself!

I am seriously considering upgrading to a dSLR next year.. and I gotta say that apart form the quality of Canon cameras, this sort of service goes a LONG way towards seeing me as a return customer. Won't be shopping at Bentley's Camera House for it tho.. thats for sure (unless I get a very polite reply to the letter I will be senbding their bosses tonight.

I can't do much, not even half as much as Id like to show my appreciation, but I can post this glowing customer feedback arounfd the web.. and rest assured I will be.

Thank you Canon, thank you very very much for looking after a customer whos shots will never grace the cover of time, will never change the world and probably will never even be published. I thank you, my lovely wife thanks you and in a few years my son Tristan will thank you when looking back at himself opening his first christmas present.

If anyone out there in POTN-land is a Canon rep, or indeed has contacts with Canon, please pass this thank you on to them.. if they'd like, they are completely welcome to use this testimonial, or I'd be more than happy to re-write it to suit whatever publication they;'d like to put it in.

Thanks once again form a sincerely grateful little fish and his family. And Merry Christmas to boot!! :D

Great story. Archive it so you can show your son the baby pics and tell him the story behind them. Canon does rock!
