As per a suggestion from fellow POTN member, I purchased the Canon 50mm 1.8. Luckly, I had a willingly cousin to help me test it out. I really like the lens, I just need to practice more with it. Just wanted to share a couple of photos that was taken with the lens.
#1 50mm, F1.8, 1/500, ISO 100
#2 50mm, F1.8, 1/500, ISO 100

Thanks, bolantej. The funny thing is I knew about stopping down the f stop would sharppen the pictures. But I was so intent in seeing what the pictures would look like at 1.8 or 2.5, I didn't think about stopping it down. I will have to get with my cousin again and do some more testing.

I like it! I agree with stopping down the f/stop some but it's still very nice.
I love my "nifty fifty" too!

i'm looking to get a 50mm lens too
about how far away did you have to stand in each of those pictures?

Sproff, I would recommend the 50mm 1.8 lens for the money. I paid $83 for mine. However, I understand the 50mm 1.4 is a whole lot better if you have the money to spend. But I don't regret getting the 1.8. I want to concentrate on protraits and I am told this is one of the lens to have in the camera bag.
As for how far I was standing when I took the pictures, I honestly wasn't paying attention. I can tell you that there were a couple of situations were I couldn't get a full body shot because I couldn't move back because of a wall or some other obstruction. But I can live with that.
