All of which were taken in the downtown area in the little spaces between skyscrapers and exclusive hotels (alot of these are within sight of the back of the Hilton). It's incredible to think of the little back areas of the places you go everyday that you never find unless you look for them. I'm having a whole new view on the city honestly

Thanks guys, the interesting thing is most of the really neat stuff I've found, I haven't really had to go into some unknown area for or anything, it's just a matter of actually opening your eyes and looking at what's all around you, something I never really used to do.

The first and last two are actually all the same building, just bizzarely sitting among the parking lots in the financial district. It was just this really bizarre building that seemed to be completely abandoned and gated up save for the new movie posters pasted over the window fairly recently. Despite being in some prime real estate, the thing was completely on the verge of collapse and was probably propped up only by the movie poster glue added over the years.

The 2nd and third were both taken in a very picturesque back alley, complete with wires, pipes, tubes, ladders and fire escapes that had taken over the surface of the wall there. Naturally, we all have different interpretations of the term "picturesque" ;)

Fourth and fifth shot were taken within sight of each other, not 30 seconds from the alleyway. Winter has really barely even started but I'm getting sick of the undersaturated colours the big grey cloudy sky is producing. Oh well, there's always black and whites for that.

I like the 5th shot a lot, as is. The rest I think are good shots, which I suspect would be stellar when monochromed.

Oh, Man, I never open my eyes .... I think that's cheating, Twitchy!

Third one I really like and the others I don't ... dunno why.

Very nice series of shots in the city. One of the things I love about photography is that it really does open your eyes. I refer to it as going back and seeing the things that you grew up with and never really saw.  All are good but I really like the 1st and 3rd. Nice job.:)

Bottom Thanks dude, I can see your point and should probably give the monochrome a shot. Nonetheless, I'm not taking the colour away from the third shot all that muted grays and oranges and yellows are just too nice for me to part with. It's psuedo-monochrome, only in colour ;)

Dwight Multiple focus points must do you a world of good then eh? hehe

condyk I appreciate the honesty. Naturally, I'm particular to all of them since I posted them (one would hope anyway) but the third one is also my favorite. I don't know if that's a purely photographic phenomenon or if those two years I spent obsessing over Quake 2 left the brain a little bit skewed. (For those wondering, Quake 2 was a computer game that came out... well a long time ago whenever it was who's colour scheme was all orange, brown, black/grey and industrial themed with a futuristic twist. Basically the theme of that shot, only more futuristic. Photo attached at bottom of page to give you an idea).

stoney Glad you see it too. It's nice to be able to appreciate beauty even in places you normally wouldn't look for it, although your friends start to think you're a bit wierd when you stand looking off a bridge for 5 minutes "admiring the view" they just can't seem to find ;)

Thanks for looking everyone.

I think all of these are good, but I'm partial to 3 and 5. Really like the colors and composition in 3 -- IMO the ladder at the right nicely balances the wires at the left. And 5's comp and colors are also great -- the building gives a muted monotone-like background to the blues, making them pop for me. There's even blue in the sign at the top of the post! I'd love to find a scene like that.

The third one is even better in colour than it was in black and white.
