View Full Version : Too Much Email

I was going to take photographs today of our beautiful spring like day but my inbox was filled with mail and I felt I had to take care of that first and I'm exhausted!
Because there was so much I separated it into groups:
In one group I had companies telling me that my data wasn't up to date! Ebay wanted all my information such as credit card # and expiration date, social security #, date of birth, drivers license #, and all that other information about you. I don't know why they wanted all of that but I figured it must be important. There were requests from PayPal, Amazon, and a bunch of companies that I don't ever shop at but hey, it's for the best, right? I mean, if I ever shop there they will already have my information!
In another group I had notes from the FBI and other government agencies.:oops::oops: Now these were embarrasing as they informed me that my ip address had been logged at some embarrasing sites. Now, I really don't go to those kind of sites very often, I promise, but they seemed to know that I did. I gave all of them the same kind of information those other companies wanted and one even told me I had to pay a fine of $199.00! Now, that hurt a lot especially when I gave them my credit card # they took out $1999.00 by mistake I guess. I'm realy sad and unhappy about that one.:(:(:(
I had some other notes from family and friends but I was too tired to answer them. I hope they understand.
Right before I sent this note I checked my bank statement on-line and saw that I was cleaned out in all my credit cards! Even my checking was over-drawn and my savings cleaned out.
Well, I guess I must of owed all those companies and didn't even know it. And those fbi warnings were because of what I looked at on those sites that I would just as soon not tell you of.:o:o:o
Because of all this work on-line I didn't have time to take any pictures so I can't post any today and I'm sorry. I'm also sorry that I even checked my email.:(:(:(
;););););)

Doesn't sound like a great day. Is that normal to be fined like that?
You know, if they've been looking/recording your IPs, they're probably monitoring what you're doing here too. ;)
Don't speak too loud. I'm in enough trouble myself. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif

I have been fully informed of the 'opportunities' in small stocks.
Many banks want my personal information too as they are updating their records.
What suprises me, is the fact that spammers can get away with it. If they can spot people downloading a tune for 'nout and take them to court, you would think a spammer would have a hard time.
Let's hope ISP's figure a way of keeping spam down that actually works (or maybe it does and there is a whole lot more that doesn't see the light of day).

Two suggestions Johhny :) Btw... yes I know this is joke, but my suggestions are not. First... get some antispam filter. Life is much better after that. Second is to get one real mail address and one which you use for all crap on web which requires your e-mail address "which of course they will never ever sell to third party". Don't bother about checking second one, and in first one you shouldn't have so many mails that you couldn't go out and get some photos :)

Wow, coincidence, I got the same email. I guess I'm looking after the other half of the money.
I've been getting a lot of emails recently about companies (all geocities based) selling replica watches. If I order one they'll even give me a tracking number which is sweet of them.

Even if they don't sell it on, and lots of companies won't, having your email address listed anywhere (including here) will let bots scrape it and add you to lists. Anything with an @ in it seems to be a target. :)

Wow, as stated above the "pills" don't work, but my septic tank is clean, I have many new girl"friends" from Russia, also I have been preapproved for a Gov't grant. I got my Masters Degree in 3 short days for a small fee, "Heather" and "Kirin" want to meet up some where near me. I also have 11 new former classmates trying to reach me. Last but not least one very generous company knew I was feeling down and out of shape and offered to send me 6 months worth of "natural" vitamins. If it wasn't for my e-mail I am afraid I would be one sad pathetic human being, I love the internet.............Joe

Yes, of course it's a joke but it's a really awful truth! Very sad awful truth in fact.
First of all, I appreciate the ones that responded and all that did knew it to be a joke and I'm glad for the apparent awareness of this crap out there! And there is a lot of it!
Since Midnight until now which is 4:00 PM Friday for a total of 16 hours, I have received in my spam folder, 83 emails!! That’s an average of 5.25 spam emails an hour. I have had much more in an hour but this is today. Using that average I will get 126 spam emails in a 24 hour period.
I use an anti-spam filter as Primoz suggested and it works great! That’s the folder I got the count in. I use a program called Qurb which works pretty good. It gets a few false negatives, mail that I want, but rarely lets a false positive through. It’s perfect once I teach it what is good, all the addresses in my contact list. What it assumes spam are notes I get from customer service at times at those commercial web sites I do business with but only the first time! So, bottom line, it’s probably 98% perfect. I would suggest everyone get such an aid. There are quite a few out there.
One of the best suggestions is to do what Primoz also suggested and that’s to use different addresses. That seems to work very well also but it’s too late for me and I’m glad I use the Qurb program. Originally, I started with the same addresses I have now and I’m pretty stuck with them. I have gotten some addresses I used from Yahoo and Gmail but I always don’t use them so that’s one good reason I get the spam.
And, Moppie is right, those darn pills don’t work!!! And lately I’m getting notes that I won some U.K. lottery! Imagine that! I didn’t even enter any lotteries in the U.K.!!!
Thanks for everyone’s suggestions! This has been fun…;););)

I'd recommend Thunderbird for an email client. It has a built in and very effective spam filter, as well as plenty of other basic steps to avoid viruses and other potential problems. Get it from Mozilla.org.

I keep getting email offers to...uhem(clearing of throat) increase my zoom size all the way to 400mm.............
Apparently it will make my partner much happier. Little did I realize that magnification was so important..........
But, I already have the advantage of a 1.6 crop factor.
And yes, I get all sorts of great offers from many sincere sounding gentlemen with money trapped in despotic African nations, if only I can send them a small fee, I will make millions.

You're right for sure! It's real hard to go from 50mm to 400mm overnight! But, I've been promised that my lens size would increase slowly until I reach the 400 or even 600mm if I keep it up! Taking the pills that is.:o:o:o
As far as those despotic (I really like that word!) countries, I too have gotten invitations to help them out. I keep trying and maybe one of these days I will receive millions! Yea!!!

I understand they make converters to help us with "smaller" magnification appear to have more.

I got one of those e-mails the other day about the gov. tracked my ip number at 20 illegal sites. That was strange I just loaded up that ip protection software prior to that on a throwaway hard drive and I only remember 10 of those sites before I had too much to drink.
