Try your local camera store first for info. I'm sure it won't be a new question for them. Otherwise, you'll have to do it online.

My local Camera store does not have what I am looking for and I am not where I am going to vacation. So as to your suggestion of online, what do you mean? A search??

I have not had any luck finding a camera store in the Cent. Fl. area that rent any len's and I have called them all ( I think). If you find one let me know.
This place is out of Denver http://www.camren.com/. They can arrange shipping for the lens to be delivered to your destination when you arrive. Their site lists a 500mm for $50 a day and the 600mm at $100. I belive their weekly rate is cheaper. I used them once out in Mt. with no problems.

I havent but Venice is a nice town. Its claim to fame is the shark tooth capital of the world or at least it was.
Anywhere around that area should provide plenty of birding opportunities. Try to locate areas where the rivers empty into the gulf and bays.

So as to your suggestion of online, what do you mean? A search?? I found 2 that way, but they were more expensive than Blue Deuce's link. $75 for a 400mm F2.8L USM seems very reasonable!

CANON EF 300MM F/4.0L IS LENS $25 $ 60 $100 $80
plus $20 for each day after the 4th plus round trip shipping and $800 security deposit.
Is the best so far. 300 may be as much as I can get. i may be able to sell some corals from my other hobby to get the cash to buy the 1.4x so I can shoot at 300mm x 1.6 crop x 1.4x = 672mm...??
