RED TAIL HAWK
I had no problem whatsoever with her , with great pleasure she was posing away like she was used to it. (maybe she was a pro)
What a magnificent model she was i must say.
I even offered her some money but she asked for a rat intead , imagine that , i say models come cheap these days.
Anyway , enough yap yap yap , enjoy.
Both shot with my reliable N and sigma 100-300 f4.

Dimitry, this is the kind of raptor portrait photography many of us can only try to emulate.
However, there is one aspect of your colour processing which I find a bit odd, and I have noticed it on your Golden Eagle too......the beak is bluish ????

Wow ... I miss my Sigma 100-300 f4. It really can produce superb shots used correctly. Beautiful birds and mastery shooting.

Dimitry, that second one is one of the best Hawk/Eagle shots I've ever seen. I think I can see you reflected in the bird's eye. WOW! Great job!
And silly release forms to get signed by the model either! :)

Are the little white specks on the lower left of #2 coloring on his feathers ?

What do you mean you miss it? Did you sell it? And if you did why? What did you get?
I know, far too many questions, but i`m thinking of selling it too.
My conditions of shooting here in Scotland (light) are not all that great so i`m thinking of getting the 300L f4 IS.
The 2 light stops of IS will be a great help,i don`t like using the iso above 400,you don`t get the same quality in image.
KENNY
Thank you for the comments and it is probably me reflected.

Thank you for the comments also,i have no idea what these white dots are,i pressume they are dirt.

I sold it because I had a big Africa trip planned and I wanted IS for walking in the bush rather than taking a tripod, which is often needed for the 100-300 f4. I got the 300mm f4 IS L and the 100-400 IS L. Both are excellent lenses. I would say the 100-300 f4 is close to the 100-400 IS L in IQ but IS does make a difference in the number of keepers you get. It is also lighter which was an extra factor for me. The 300mm is a lovely lens and image quality is certainly better, but not much.
Light was never actually a problem for me with the 100-300 f4 even though English light is not much better than you may get in Scotland. I normally used it with a 1.4 TCon and had no problems with hunting, unlike my ex Canon 70-200 f4, and the HSM motor was very fast and accurate.
I sold the 300mm IS L not because it is a bad lens, it certainly isn't, but because having both to try I simply used the 100-400 IS L much more. I prefer shooting wildlife with a zooms. Birds are different as you're often at max. zoom anyway. When my Africa trip was cancelled I also sold that, simply because I will not get use from it here in the UK.

Well,as i said i`m heading for the 300 , i take it that you recamend it?
About the difference of light between England - Scotland though , well ,its alot darker here during the winter months , almost always cloudy.

I do recommend it, of course, but I seem to remember the 300mm with a TCon was no better than the 100-400. Shame I don't have any test shots of the two in direct competition. As soon as I decided on the zoom I sold the 300mm and threw all the test images away ... tree bark is pretty boring

LOL
You see i had the 100-400 and i didn`t like it at all, maybe the size or the zoom style i don`t know,i just didn`t like it,and as you can tell i`m heading for IS.
I realy want the 300,i don`t mind about the TC,after awhile i might get the 400 5.6 for the brighter summer weather,we`ll see,Lotto is coming up.LOL
I wish i could keep them both.

Dimitri...that's right, I see a blue colour on my monitor, not that sort of psycho blue as, say, on Blue Deuces avatar :D , but steely blue. What sort of diet would produce that colour ?

Peter i have no idea but since you mentioned it i have seen some raptor shots from others here that were exactly the same.
No idea , the best thing to do is the next time i`m up at the bird center to check and see the birds if they realy have that kind of colour on their nose.
I will keep you posted.
Thanks for hoping back and answering my question.
