WOW, they have big spiders down there! Just kidding. Nice shots. You don't know how right you are , really....we were up in the mountains at a friends new house sitting at an outside table and a kitten was playing with something by my feet...after a few minutes I looked down and there was a big hairy black spider as large as my hand..after evacuating the area I was trying to decide whether to get my camera or save the cat...one of the builders dispatched it with a boot...they called it a whoof spider...looked like a huge tarantular to me ...but they said it was quite poisonous..??

That crab is great, and so is Dylan's expression & posture holding it. You really captured a boy's fascination with weird animals. And in #1 the exposure and lighting are perfect -- nice highlights, soft shadows, good 3-d feel. super work both techinically and in human dimension.

Thanks David...I think the depth of field may be a bit shallow as I would like to have seen his eyes focused as much as the crab, but probably would have flattened the photo...what are your thoughts on which should be the center of focus, eyes or crab in this instance...??

PS...thanks Queenbee...

He who hesitates is lost!...The cat did not show the next day and the spider was crunched before I could react ,decision to squish or run for camera......he may have already stung the cat ??:(:(...Thanks actionphotog...the good part is it's etched very brightly in my minds eye...if only I could draw!

BruceWell , I'm always in CR in my mind and heart, for sure!!...I spent 25 years raising my kids and working and lost sight of the importance of travel and vacation...had a melt down after realizing how easy and important it was to me after a friend dragged me away to CR the first time...so now I take all my vacation time from work, which is about 3 weeks and optomize it with Thanksgiving week to get two trips..one in November and one in Feb or March..I am very fortunate to have a very good friend who has a home there with a car and boat so all it costs is my plane fare ( around $400) and food while I'm there........come on down !! Life is short!!

My buddy that I go to CR with just got back from Italy a few weeks before my trip and he was in love with Italy! Maybe we need a Vacation section so we can show people, landscape and other vacation interests all in one spot??

I'm glad you are enjoying my trip...I've got enough photos to spread it out for a while...shriek when you've had enough and I get redundant or boring ...Please!!

I love that first photo, Peachman. The ventana looks pretty cool, too. We have a lot of crazy rock formations like that on the Oregon coast, too, you should come see it. You can stay with me. :D

Well I'm serious about the place to stay if you ever make it to Oregon.

I'd love to see Costa Rica, but unless the Army sends me I don't think I'll be able to afford the trip any time soon.

Nice shots Peachman. Thanks Solinger...the bad part of the trip is the guys I go with are either looking for fish or a cold beer and pass a million good shots when we are ridding together...no interest in photos..I go buggy sometimes missing some situations...

Peachman -- Given enough time to really think about the shot (at the time) I would have focused on the eyes. But I'll bet the kid was moving quite fast, don't sweat it, you did great.

I agree with you about using your vacation time. live before you're old.

Speaking of which, I don't think that dark mark on your leg is from kneeling. I think something very strange happened in your body when you first saw that gigantic poisonous spider.

Seriously, these are wonderful images of friends you obviously care deeply about. The memories you've gained on this trip are so very precious indeed.

Thanks for sharing your dear friends and beautiful locations with us.

actually he was half a beach away, now that I think about it...this is cropped very heavily...it's about 650 k out of 2.8 meg...I didn't remember that 'til I went to have a large print done of this one...8X10 was fine but when I went to 11X15 all kinds of artifacts showed up...the down side of big crops!...thanks though David......
