I have owned an A40 since Nov. 02. It is my first digital camera. Just today, I received a wide angle (0.5x) lens and a 2x AF telephoto lens (Opteka Brand) that I ordered from 47St. Photo through EBay. At this point, I am disappointed with the pictures I have taken today using these new lenses. When I use the flash with either lens, I get a shadow on the lower right quarter of the picture. Is this a common problem with accessory lenses, including Canon brand add-on lenses?

Also the 2x tele lens seems to add very little to the camera's 3x optical telephoto. With the 0.5x lens, I get a very noticable fisheye effect. Would appreciate any comments.

flash photography is discouraged when using most telephoto lenses. the dark portion in the picture is brought about by area being blocked by the lens adapter plus the teleconverter lens or the wide angle lens. the flash is being bounced off to another direction causing the dark portion in the picture.

the very basic reason why one would use a teleconverter lens is to take closer pictures of the subject without moving closer to it. hence, the fact that you are far from your subject is already beyond the limits of your built in flash. should you prefer to use flash combined with using the teleconverters, i guess you will have to resort to using external/slave flash.

i hope this helps.
