That is a place I have yet to visit.
I'm also waiting for this rain to get over so I can go to Sunset Publishing Headquarters in Palo Alto and see what they've planted in their gardens for the Spring.

Born in Manhattan, NYC, NY. Raised around Washington, D.C. Served in Pentagon during Vietnam. Finally wised up and came to California. I live in Buellton which is about 40 miles north of Santa Barbara on Hwy 101. I have worked at UCSB (University of California at Santa Barbara) for over 30 years. We are in the middle of the Santa Rita Hills Appellation (also known as SIDEWAYS COUNTRY.) We prefer to drink wine rather than pick sand out of our teeth. About 20 miles east of Vandenberg AFB. About 20 miles west of Neverland (of Michael Jackson fame.)

Yonni, yes we've gotten a BUNCH of rain. Finally, the past two days have been rain free and it's been excirting to see the sun, something that would be just a nornal thing at this time of year. I do know where Two Rock is located. It's about half way out to the Pacific coast.

Born in Dana Point.. stuck in Ohio for now..
Funny, I'm feeling just the opposite... Born and raised in Northeast Ohio, was stationed in Orange County (Tustin) while in the Marines in the mid-80s. Loved it then and decided to move back about 5 years ago. Live in Santa Clarita this time. Seriously though, for some reason we (my wife and I) just aren't enjoying CA as much this time as I did in the 80s. Somehow its never really seemed like "home". Anyway, here for now, probably back to Ohio in a couple of years. Oh yeah, like a couple of others have mentioned, I'm in the middle of a carrer change right now so I'm currently a student at CSUN.

32 year LA native here - lived just up the road from Dodger Stadium but now residing (or call it stuck) in the frozen tundra of WI. :D I've been in WI a total of eight years and also did a 6-month stint living in Charlotte, NC.
Love WI in the summer, especially the Northwoods - gorgeous place. Winters? They truly suck. Anyone considering moving to the cold Midwest, think twice!!!
Most of my family is still in LA except for my sister living in OR.
Man, this thread is making me homesick for sunny skies, warm temps, beaches, and mountains (all in the same place)!

I have lived in Visalia most all my life. Gateway to the Sequoias. Home of the Visalia Saddle Company. (Old time cowboys should recognize the Visalia saddle tree) Donated the original sculpture "End of the Trail" which now resides in the Cowboy Hall of Fame, Oklahoma City.

And what a bargain at $3,500! (The original construction cost appropriated by congress for the lighthouse in 1823) You can't even buy a lousy Canon EF 500mm f/4.0L for that price!

Greetings all from Orange County California!
I have had the passion of Photography since my first photography class in High School in the late 70's ...
With the internet and digital and my love of technology it really is a sweet mix.
Still have the old school passion for film stuff, I had a B&W Darkroom for many years, but digital is my deal now.
Anyway short and sweet intro there...
Happy Shooting!

OK, wait a minute ... that's where I live ... well, almost ... well actually I can't afford to live there anymore. I had to move out to Buellton and commute ... just because they don't want any "cheap" under $1 million dollar houses in the city. But really, all the terrible things you've said about Santa Barbara people, well, I have been here for about 30 years and I have to say, they attack each other just as quickly as they attack us "po' white trash". And the county supervisors just agreed to ensure that none of the state mandated affordable housing for the county be built in Santa Barbara city boundaries! Really, no kidding ... the rich didn't want any houses in the $125,000 to $500,000 range being built near them! After all, what sort of folks live in those kinds of hovels? Anyway, people up here in Buellton are much nicer!

exactly. my wife (fiance at the time) was working 2 jobs and still barely making it when we were there. i don't know how any of the retail workers can do it. I lived with a bunch of guys while going to brooks and the rent was $3000+ /month for shared bedrooms and many want a 2 month deposit. who has 7k laying around for a deposit that is a renter???
Its a beautiful place to visit, but theres no way the average person can make it. Only old money. my step brother lives there, his house tripled in value in 4 years. thats just wrong.

i'll take one of the safest and best education programs in the country yet 5 miutes from downtown seattle anyday over socalI met and proposed to my wife of 35 years (in June) in LA while I was in the Navy in San Diego. My proposal was conditional on our moving to Northern California. It was the smog, weather and traffic for me. I have not spent much time in Santa Barbara but thought it looked pretty nice.
My wife and I moved to Napa 30+ years ago because it was affordable. Now, both our daughters and their husbands have had to settle elsewhere as it is too expensive. :(
I spent almost a year in the Seattle area while in the Navy and thought it was very beautiful. My wife and I talk about making a trip up that way one of these days.

I'm doing excellently since my sprained back is better! We are taking the truck camper to the National Forest today. I still haven't installed MS8 on my new computer but I bought Adobe Creative Suite 2 to sit in its box on my desk next to it to keep it company until I start installing things.
Belmondo is kinda beaten down from hauling his 500mm f/4 across the country. Skip and Maureen are on vacation in Europe (saw that on a thread somewhere.) Kevin is now a moderator although very stealthy so far. Annoyotoms pops in and out seemingly randomly. Mike Goat has just flown off somewhere to shoot more burlesque competitions or something. Have seen bits and pieces of several others hither and yon.
Have you figured out how to spend all that money you haven't earned yet?

We need to get a SoCal thing goin'. We did it last Summer (went out to Catalina), and had a blast...So how was it organized? A poll then somebody just set a time and place? I'm game.
Best to give it a month or so for schedules to gel. September is less hot but we might loose some wedding photographers. Maybe Sunday's less busy for them.
I'd even go for something simpler like San Diego Balboa Park, Pasadena's flower gardens (what's it called?), or Long Beach Aquarium / park and harbor cruises.
However; a 3 hour boat ride would help keep us occupied until we know who's who. Tee shirts or POTN camera strap might help the socially shy. Hey, maybe one of the pros could do a little workshop, or is that too complicated. With all the salt spray and sand, maybe a camera cleaning workshop ... kidding.
Oh, I'm in the East side of Newport Beach, ergo the name ...

Getty Center is nice as well.Yes, I agree. It's amazing. However; do they allow flash? Monopods? It can be a tad inaccessible too due to popularity - unless someone organized shuttles and tickets.
So then, how do we organize this? Just say "everyone, group meeting on Sunday at 10AM, wear a nametag saying POTN." and just see who shows?
I'd love to do that Catalina trip, sure my family would too.

I'm sure our friends just north of the Golden Gate Bridge are OK. If you haven't heard, we just had a 4.4 earthquake that was centered southeast of Santa Rosa. I felt it down here in the South Bay.

We Californians are just too lazy. It's time to get up off our butts and organize a meet. What's the big deal - it's just a little bit of planning. Won't take but a minute. Alright? Let's get started!:)
So, umm, would someone please take care of this and let me know where and when. Thanks.:p

Wanted to take this opportunity to post this here:
These are some Southern California DSLR Groups looking for new members.
The IE (inland Empire); SD-DSLR (San Diego) and So Cal (LA area) are avid shooters. We go out on a monthly basis and have fun, shoot, eat and talk shop. Some of the members arrange shoots on a more frequent basis. The LACDG is a yahoo group and is strictly Canon.
Hope you have time to try. If you join please let them know you found them here on POTN. (just what we need - more Canon folks :)
Thanks
