Fullerton has a downtown?

Welcome aboard.

HAHAHA believe it or not yes - very popular with a ton of bars and clubs. A large majority of local 20-30 somethings hang out here on the weekends. I will try to get some shots if I can sometime soon, because it is actually really cool.

Fullerton, that brings memories of the college days with the Friendship Games. Which was BKA 'baby' games, since many of the ladies came back pregnant! LOL;)

Been shooting the Red Tails or migratory Buzzards?

evorgsumaf

grimie09,
I have this one Red Tail that sits on the power line about 100 yards from my backyard. Most times, it is very skitish; but there have been times I can sneak up on it and just watch. I don't know why I haven't taken my camera? As for the buzzards, I don't think I have seen any. I will keep my eyes open for them.
Sun City is getting pretty crowded isn't it?
Like you wouldn't believe! They are building up all around us, and it is making a bad situation worse.

Like you wouldn't believe! They are building up all around us, and it is making a bad situation worse. That's much the same as out here in the desert. When we moved here from the Bay Area 7 years ago, everything seemed very spread out and open feeling. Now, they're starting to fill in all the spaces, and other than the temperature, it almost feels like we've been swallowed up by Los Angeles. Fortunately, we're still only about a 20-minute drive from barren desert and the quiet of nothingness. When it gets to a half hour, I'll probably move again.

I shoot from Mission Road between E 1st street & the 101.
You can drive between the buildings and up to the rail road tracks, it's east of the city.

I also have shot from Stadium Way north of the 110 and south of Elysian Park, there is a great view from the north. This is also my the LA County Fire Department training facility were they have a piece of one of the World Trade Center buildings on display. (Behind a locked gate at night)

I don't know how great these neighborhoods are so I shoot fast & keep my mag light close.

During the summer and early fall there are ALOT of soccer games going on around here.

When I play golf at the local course one of the holes over looks a soccer field and on a Saturday morning or afternoon it gets pretty loud. Nothing like trying to tee off at the same time as an air horn going off to celebrate a goal:lol:

Lots to shoot right now because of all the snow falling around the city, no snow in the city but in the hills around us. March and April are good months to shoot here too, with the California Poppies in bloom. If we have a good poppy season this year they will cover most all the open hillsides.

Yeah, it is a blast. My wife and I have been going for years - she dances and I shoot. HERE (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=361501) is one I got last year. And HERE (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=361503) is another.

And be sure to keep up with ZydecoBrad's AOL page: http://members.aol.com/zydecobrad/zydeco.html where he keeps everyone informed of what is going on. For example, this Saturday January 26, 2008 at 8pm, Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie Performing at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater. Wish I could be there!

Believe me, I've looked and there aren't many waterfalls around the Orange Co. area. In fact, I only found one--and it's a man-made one. :( It's at the Fullerton Arboretum (http://arboretum.fullerton.edu/).

Here's a photo I took of it. I wanted a long exposure of 2 seconds to smooth the water, so I used a very tiny aperture (f/38) with a Graduated ND filter.

Welcome to the POTN you will find this place very welcoming and informative.

S.E.V. I spend a lot of time in the Westlake Village/ Agoura area. Love the shots at the speedventures day in your flickr, I recently went to one of their events at buttonwillow and it was great!

Thanks I have a buddy who shoots these events and i have the opportunity to help him out.

This Saturday on March 15th, the California Visual Artists will be having a juried exhibit at Second City Council in Long Beach. There will be an artists' reception from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. There will be live music and the event is FREE.

So if you are in town this weekend* and want to see some quality photography, Long Beach is the place.

Rad

*As it turns out, I wont be able to make it as we will be out whale watching that day.

East Bay Area, about an hour and a half south of Sacramento and maybe 45 min to an hour east of San Fran, I think. I try to avoid driving there at all costs.

Yeah, not too many people have heard of it unless they are from the area. I used to live down south when I was a kid. We lived in Torrence for two years and Lakewood for three years before my Dad got transfered back to the Bay Area. But that was almost twenty years ago now.

Me too. With my $250 Super photo pass.

Last year I was directly above George Lucas' crash in the pro-celeb race. I can't wait.

I was thinking about getting that pass this year. Is it worth it? This year i will have my 70-200 f2.8IS and 100-400 IS last year i only had the 18-55 and 75-300 cheap lenses.

I remember that crash what a bunch of amateurs. Hahahahahahaha

I think it's worth it, there are 3 locations, turn 1, , 6 & 8. Turn 1 is really fast, and they say the celebrities always crash there. Turn 6 is ok, but a little slow. Turn 8 is a long walk and is a 30mph or so even with the F1's. It's though to get any good shots there at all. The cars don't lean into the corner and they are too slow to pan. Other then that the views are unobstructed.
This one shows the great job a 20D does focusing on moving objects:

i am from san pedro. about 5 minutes from the grand prix! Unfortunately, i don't have the experience or the knowledge to be paying for a press pass, yet. But i can get in to the event for free for the most part. I was there last year just to view the mini-concert they had. This year i have a 40D and i'm not afraid to shoot!

There's quite a few wineries (you don't have to do the tastings to shoot nice scenery).

Wineries for the Sonoma area. The Marin Headlands, the GG Bridge, Point Bonita Lighthouse, etc. There are tons of places to go shoot.

Just get out there and have fun with it. You learn something every time you shoot.

I'm in Contra Costa County (Clayton to be specific).

Welcome to the group. :D

I take classes at the College of Marin and now that the weather is getting nice I intend on skipping class n heading to West Marin to take pix.

Pt Reyes has Tule Elk, Bobcats, hawks, elephant seals, harbor seals, and sea lions depending on the season.

Mount Tamalpais Watershed District (Kent Lake and its surrounding trails, Bon Tempe Lake, etc) I've seen rattle snakes and scorpions and even a bald eagle here- not to mention the views from Mt. Tam itself.

Samuel P Taylor and Muir Woods state parks have redwood trees n wildlife.

Stinson Beach and that whole Hwy 1 area is beautiful and of course...

The Golden Gate Bridge.

Every night launch we have had there is a rediculous amount of fog. This base is plagued by it. There are a few opportunities in the future. Lets hope for no fog!
