Me too! Well... I know, because the work I did last month was in the cemetery next door to the county jail.

Somehow I suspect your experience might have been a little different... Dare I ask?

A client of ours was given a free, all-expenses-paid vacation there for trying to collect a debt at gunpoint. Turns out they take a dim view of that sort of thing in Sonora.

We were in the middle of selling his house for him, and I actually talked the local judge into letting him out on his own recognizance to help his family with the move.

I wish I had a copy of the letter I wrote. It must have been a beaut.

The hottest I ever saw in the Bay Area while we lived there was 108 in Los Gatos. Were we are now, 108 is a comfortable summer day, and just happens to be the forecast for this coming weekend. I've seen 127 a couple times here, and from June until October, we won't see any days under 100.

This seems like an appropriate place for my first POTN post. Hello all, registered today, although I've been lurking for a while. Looking forward to meeting, learning, and sharing what little I know.

I live in Santa Barbara. Came here to go to UCSB 21 years ago and never left. Met my wife at school, and now we both work at UCSB! Well, certainly could've picked a worse place to settle down and raise kids. :-D

I shoot for my own fun, and tend to fall into the "shoot-prolifically-and-hope-there-are-some-keepers," but sure would like to become a more deliberate photographer. Looking forward to my POTN experience!

Come up to Samy's Camera in Costa Mesa (actually it's Santa Ana). :)

It's less than a mile from South Coast Plaza, an upscale shopping mall. Just go up the 405 for an hour (or two, depending on traffic and where in SD you are).

All Guitarists and Photographers in So Cal - Hendrix Exhibition!

Just found out about this and I thought I would pass it on:

CELEBRITY VAULT. 345 N. Canon Drive, Beverly Hills. (310) 858-7815.

On view until June 27th is "Hendrix Revealed", an exhibit of photographs of the iconic guitarist Jimi Hendrix as seen onstage, in the recording studio, posed, candid, by himself, with his band The Experience, or with other rock and roll musicians of the time.

Well, howdy neighbor!! :) Did you get any interesting pics of the launch last week? Better yet, did you live through the heat?

And yeah, the Lompton thing is kinda sad. Yesterday afternoon at the FF I ran into an old buddy of mine who is retired CHP. He told me he is thrilled to be out of it now, well he retired about 8-10 years back. I am amazed at the sheer number of sierens we hear every day now. When I ws a kid it was a significant thing to hear a sieren a week. And reading the "Blotter" in the paper every day pretty much tells the story.

We are actually hoping to leave the area, if not the state within 3-5yrs. It's simply not a great place to live anymore. My home has been vandalized twice in the past year and a half. Which is the first time in 40+ years. I simply do not need this anymore.

BTW, did you catch that there is gonna be a Cali POTN get together in a bit over a month?

http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=494507

Sounds like a fun time...I am bringing extra cash or at least a laptop so I can PP folks who need to sell off gear for the casino....hehehehe....and maybe a nice layered chili dip thing...

Off to the FF to take some shots and maybe catch me a Most Wanted or twenty...hehehehehe....

I wasn't in town for the launch. I was in NJ for some training for an upcomming deployment. I didn't hear about the POTN get together, but even so, I will be gone on my deployment by then. I heard about the heat and wish I was here because I have never seen it get that hot in the 3 years I have been here. I will be at the FF (flower festival not full frame) this weekend so maybe I might bump into you.

There was one a few weeks ago in Sacramento.
We had a great time. (not trying to rub it in).
We went shooting at a xouple of places, and then a BBQ at Marcus' house.
You can read about it Here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=553276).

There is another option though. Start one. ;)

Looks like you guys had a great time. But I was out of the country during the meet. Anyway I'll keep a lookout for the next one.

Bummer that you were busy at the time. We did have a good time, and you would have been more than welcome to join us. After all, it was open to all POTN members.
And yes, there will be another. :)

I was serious about if you wanted to start one. Living in SF, you must know of some places that the tourists don't know about?

Been on the boards for a bit, but haven't checked in :). From SoCal, Diamond Bar to be exact.

Hmmm,Concord,Clayton
I've always wanted to find a clear day on Mt. Diablo or Mt.Tam.
Wait until the tarantulas are crossing the road on Mt. Diablo and macro them.
Mothball fleet but I am focal length challenged

Funny you should mention that.

I was playing golf one day at Oakhusrt (for those of you who don't know, it's in Clayton). As I went out to the fairway to get to my ball, a tarantula was strolling across, right by my ball.

I let him play through. :p

And no, I didn't have my camera with me at the time.

Scary as those things are they are pretty harmless but I'm not touching it.

A few years back I rode up to the summit if Mt. Diablo and found a tarantula migration - a few hundred of them, I guess. I think that happens around October, generally...

Apparently, it's mating season for tarantulas.
You can read about it Here (http://claycord.blogspot.com/2008/11/is-it-obvious-that-mating-season-is.html)

A long time ago, while I was still commuting from SF to Concord, I rode my motorcycle home over the Bay Bridge, turned left at Orinda and right on Bear Creek Road. Which eventually led me to Alhambra Valley Road. At Alhambra Avenue I turned right on Reliez Valley Road. In that first 1/4 mile I found a black, hairy river crossing Reliez Valley Road. Must have been millions of tarantulas, all looking for love. Their path was (guessing) about 10 feet wide and they just kept coming.

I've never seen anything like that in my life. I watched for an hour or so and then turned around to take an alternate route.

Can't see that any more around there - open fields and creeks are gone, replaced by "Country Houses". Everything is paved.

Sigh...

Road is still there and it is still the same.
HMMMMM. gives me an idea of a place to go and shoot grassland/ San Pablo or Briones resevoirs.
I was shooting the red tails flying over my house today and hummers yesterday.

I guess I should fess up. I too, am from California.

I lived in Orland,CA for alittle over 20 years, then moved to Chico last August with my Wife. I really like Chico. Aside from idiotic College drivers, we have a beautiful natural park that is huge, and very photogenic.

Ah, yes. Mojave. To misquote W. C. Fields, "Mojave. Yass, yass. I spent a week there one night."

You should try Albuquerque, New Mexico. The worst place in the world I have ever stayed.
A veritable armpit of the United States.

No edit necessary.

Have you ever been to El Paso??? I am a huge fan of Texas (I am from California) and I must say that THAT place is the armpit of the US. I went driving through there going to a class at another base and thought I was going to get car jacked when I stopped.

Sorry. Never been to El Paso. I have been to Texas, but they tell me that where I went is not a good representation of the rest of Texas.
I was in Austin.
I did however visit San Antonio while I was there, and saw The Alamo.

Remember the quote from The Wizard of Oz?
"There's no place like home. There's no place like home."

Edit: Most people have two armpits, so doesn't it stand to reason that the United States could have two?

JBerlotti

Well then since El Paso is so south in the US I remove the title of armpit and now dub is the a**crack of the US. I was stationed in San Antonio for 4 years and loved every second of it. El Paso... Not so much.
