Went to reprocess some shots, and they take on a whole new life when black and whited. I think my black and whites are getting much better since I've started doing the layer based dodge and burning.

The number two for me is a totally different shot (and better) than the colour version, but number three I much prefer the colour version. That was just a very good shot and B&W takes rather than adds for me.

I wondered when you posted the colour versions whether you would b&w them and I thought at the time #2 would be excellent because of the range of tones. I must admit though the colour verson of #3 appealed more, I think because it looked more weathered and faded. I'll have to learn the technique you're using.

As I haven't seen the coloured versions, I have to say that I love 2 and 3.

awesome ****. can you explain the "dodge and burn technique" you are using?
